I have a manual transmission TRD Off Road. Last night, I had a few botched attempts at backing in a heavy trailer up my driveway. On the third try, I finally pushed the trailer up my driveway, slowly releasing the clutch and giving it a lot of gas. Immediately, I smelled a burning rubber smell. Pretty sure I burned the clutch a bit.

Question is, what kind of damage did I do? Is this grounds for taking her into a service shop?

yeah that sounds like you burnt the clutch a bit. It'll smell like that for a couple days, but you'll be fine. Most of us on here have done that in these trucks until we learnt how tall that reverse gear is. You won't need to take it into a shop. You'd have to have done it for a couple minutes to cause real damage - and you'd know you did that if there's slip while accelerating without using the clutch.

Might want to look into the 2Lo mod - it lets you put the transfer case in low gear but stay in RWD so you can maneuver at slow speeds exactly like you were
