I was messing around with my buddies in some mud, had it in low and couldn't get up a steep clay hill. Put it in high to get wheel speed to back up. Forgot it was in high, put it in 3rd and popped the clutch. 4k rpms for probably 20ft. When I stopped all anyone could smell was my clutch. Smoke was rolling out from under the hood like when you cross water and your muffler goes under, that much. I've drove probably 30 miles after and still smell it? I know I'm an idiot. What's the probable damage....

Depends on the clutch see how it works now that it had a chance to cool down.

If it starts to slip all the time get the transmission jack ready.

You took some life off it for sure .

You might have the smell for a good while

On my way home I didn't feel it slip. I did the clutch test. Parking brake on, put it in 3rd and let it out. About half way out it was bogging down but it revved back up and I let it out more and it bogged down more.

Having the lingering smell is normal. I still smell clutch on my truck from what I would consider moderate clutch use from a month ago.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Why are you taking off in 3rd gear? That would definitely make it smell if you are in high range. Don't make a habit out of taking off in any gear but 1st unless you are in low range.

I thought I explained it good enough above, but I was in high to back up cause I had to back up pretty far to try to get out of the ditch. I forgot to put it back in low and started up the hill again.
