I would guess you have rubber burning .

Hose or spark plug wire get against the the exhaust manifold.

It is rubber and not wire insulation ??

I forget the easy because that should be easy to spot.

When a belt driven device is no longer working.

Could be not enough belt tension then. At my work we always do a tension check and adjust after a 24hr run on belts.
Squeak makes me think loose belt, but oil on a belt never a good thing either.

No idea, best bet would be shut it down (of course) and check to see if any are looser than the others. Push down on it with thumb or finger in between pulley/sheave.

Rubber does not expand when heated, it contracts. Perhaps one of your belts is too tight.

Also check coolant level. An overheating engine also smells similar

check the harmonic balancer, if you have a leak it's likely the oil pump cover O-ring and possibly the elastomeric on the balancer has failed. Mine is a `96 and had both. Oil on the belts will let them slip and ultimately when they heat up make bad smells.

Sounds like what you are smelling is actually burnt oil. Take a look at the header and pipes to see if there are any burnt oil stain on them.

Or if you did an oil change recently, if you spilled any then you'll smell it for awhile after driving around. Accidentally spilled some on my headers once while filling the engine, that was a lovely smell for a few days afterward.

My truck smelled like awful burning due to a stray Reese's peanut butter cup on the exhaust manifold.

My friend's avalon had an awful burning rubber smell after an overfilled brake fluid reservoir spilled over onto the belts.

I had a burning plastic smell in my car and couldn't figure it out.
I finally discovered a plastic grocery bag melted on my muffler.
Years later a girl at work was complaing about a burning plastic smell and guess what was melted into her exhaust?
    A grocery bag.
It was at that moment I realized it is always a grocery bag....

I pulled a grocery bag out of a customer's brakes once.

I had a German Shepard who discovered he loved attacking helium filled birthday balloons.
Coincidentally he had ate a balloon on a string.
He had the string hanging out of his ass so I stepped on it while he was walking away.
    Out came a popped balloon.
I felt bad for him and never threw another birthday party again.
