I bought a used John Deere riding mower and noticed some burnt wires. Anyone know what might be causing this and how to fix it?

Piss poor wiring coupled with stator and regulator issues would be my guess.....

Let me look up some diagrams.
See if we can get a better idea of what is going on.

Is that the original engine to the mower?
Nothing I see looks factory as far as wiring.

as far as I know, it’s the original engine. Yeah I don’t know what’s going on with the wiring. thanks for your help by the way!

Looks like some problem with the voltage regulator charging system or a short that was being worked on. I happen to have the complete John Deere Tech manual TM1975, for the LT1xx series if you are interested.

@Sysco on your post above with your email.
you can now click delete. That way your email is not public on the forum.
Crawler bots can scrape emails from public forums. Not a huge deal, but no one needs "more" junk mail.

added you to the Google drive too.
DropBox can be a pain to navigate when you fisrt sign-on.
    Google drive might be easier.

Once I have the file. I will share it with the others that request it.

By the way, the mower runs fine. No issues other than these wires. I did find a ground wire not fully crimped. Re-crimped it and now the mower shuts off when I get off- did not do that before.IMG_2244.jpg

The way those connectors are melted has me wondering if you aren't pushing too much current you the wire size.
Or you have a bad connection. I'd want to know what wire goes to what on the melted terminals of those connections.
Then trace them back to the component and make sure all the splices and connections are good.

Yeah I really wanna find out the cause of this before I go replacing parts. Does the gauge of the wire look correct to you? that pigtail does look like factory as far as the white connector from what I’ve seen on YouTube. There was a guy that replaced his with a four wire trailer connector. that might work once I figure out why these wires are fried. And what really baffles me is why they put three butt connectors on one wire.

Every one of those butt connectors is just adding resistance. And the connectors at the plug will even be higher. So those will be the hottest spots. Cut all that crap out
