So my buddy and I are going to June Lake next week and we are thinking about taking a detour to the tunnel. He has a 4x4, I have a stock 05 PreRunner SR5 with off road tires. Has anyone done this trail, if so is it possible to do without 4wd?

    Thanks

I've seen a Ford Focus up there before. You'll be fine. The road is in great condition right now, only a few woops and some soft sand.

any stock pickup truck will easily make it the tunnel! not too far from the highway to the tunnel so there should be no worries in making it on your part..

Depending on when you plan on visiting the tunnel, you may need to use caution. All this week we are going to be in the upper 100's with 20-30% chance of thunderstorms. They usually don't develop until the afternoon. However, since almost half of the road that goes to the tunnel is in the bottom of a large drainage, flash flooding may be a concern. If there are dark clouds on the horizon, stay on high ground.
