    I have a 2020 Tacoma. About 4 years ago I installed the
Toytec Aluma Series Boss Suspension System for 2016-2023 Tacoma - 2"-3" Lift

I have about 60k mile on the suspension. This morning the shaft on one of the front struts snapped.

I wanted to replace the struts with the same thing from Toytec but apparently they are having inventory issues and the parts won't be availble for close to a month. I can't be without the vehicle for that long, so I need to find something else.

Can anyone something comparable to these toytec struts? I'd like to be able to swap them out with something that will keep the same ride height without a whole lot of hassle.

    Thanks!

Some 5100s might be the cheapest option. More importantly, you should find out what caused them to snap. Sounds like the shock might be bottoming out before you hit the bump stop. Do you also have spacers on top of the shock?

    These broke? upload_2024-10-15_0-48-38.png

Fox 2.0" coilovers are very durable (based on abuse in my local off-road club) and will deliver similar performance as yours. However, lift height is limited to 2": The adjustment collar being on the bottom, will be difficult to adjust in-situ.

Having a shaft break seems to be a re-occurring theme of Toytec, plus lots of leaks too.

Toytec’s parent company is going thru bankruptcy so I assume that’s the problem with getting parts. Personally I would stay away from them till they get sold to another company

If I had a shock shaft snap I'd be looking at other brands and/or for why it snapped.

How was the ride? My last set ended up leaking after about 50k. I noticed it and replaced them. If they were leaking it’s possible they bottomed out and broke.

    Those are rebranded Elkas.

Should be able to get a shaft and get them rebuilt.

what this guy said. they are rebranded elkas. same with dirtking coilovers.

that being said alot of reptable shock rebuilding places will make their own shafts in house. doesn't have to be toytec themselves that rebuilds them. i wouldn't be suprised if they outsource themselves

That means the lower uniball would fracture yearly needing replacement... Just get a different brand, not Toytec, not Elka, not Dirt King.

All the brands use the exact same spherical bearing.

^Same size but not same mfr. With Elka's bearings, the spherical ball likes to crack in half.

2 years on my first set of elkas and I had other failures but not a single spherical bearing issue.... current set is still solid

Fox has a reputation for a reason. I bought Toytec too, but the gen version wasn't rebuildable for the rear shocks. Went Fox for the rears, and immediately noticed improvement. Not looking forward to buying the front Fox struts, but reputation and reliability...you get what you pay for.

You're lucky. Had it happen to multiple folks in my off road club.

The solution though is to just get replacement bearings from FK, Aurora, etc. Not a big deal unless the end fitting has been gouged.
