This past weekend, I went on a camping trip. I knew my center support bearing was in need of changing, so I have a new one sitting on my workbench, along with 3 new u-joints, because with the drive shaft out, might as well. I planned on doing the work this coming weekend, but I guess I should have done it last weekend...

On the return trip home, I was experiencing a lot of vibration when accelerating. I made it all but 10 blocks from home when there was a loud bang and a lot of thwacking, along with complete loss of power. I thought "oh, geez--there goes the drive shaft..."

I got underneath and saw that the flange yoke coming off the transmission exploded. The engine end of the driveshaft must have been spinning around until it came to a stop, punching a hole in the underside of the body and ripping off the floor insulator heat shield. I got the truck towed home and am making a plan:
    • Source a new flange yoke. Went to the local Toyota parts counter and it turns out that Toyota doesn't sell them, only whole new driveshafts--so stupid. The part says "Spicer 130215 and 5001905". Any words of wisdom on ordering a new one?
    • Pull the drive shaft and support bearing and replace the flange yoke, 3 u-joints, & install new center support bearing.
    • Take assembled driveshaft to a shop to have it balanced and hope that the engine end swinging around after coming off the transmission didn't damage it.
    • Re-install driveshaft
    • Figure out how to patch up the hole in the underside--any advice on this front?
    • Install a new floor insulator.
    • One more question--there is a component on the end of the transmission that took a hit from the end of the driveshaft--looks minor compared to the underside of the body, but I don't know what this assembly is and how sensitive it is to having been thwacked...help

    Can't wait to start!
Toyota really screws us here, the driveshaft is made by Spicer but they won't let Spicer sell the parts. Hopefully @SethM will get you what you need, the only other option is junkyards.
