My windshield got busted today. Was hit by a rock that fell off an oncoming truck. Is there any reason to pay an extra 300$ to get a Toyota windshield as opposed to an aftermarket? Any advice from people with experience is greatly appreciated.

Deductable for windshields? In Florida, they were covered totally. That was a few years ago.

Not sure about your state. Might want to double check.

Had that also, just changed mine (6 months ago) to $0. Six month payment went up only $12.00

Back to your question on aftermarket windshield. I have had a few back in the day, never had good luck with them. Discolored and delaminated, and a bit more distortion. But that was a while ago, may have changed with time.

I did have a couple changed on my 2nd gen. Whatever Safelite puts in. They were fine.

Thank you all for input. After the advise on here, glass company, insurance company and the dealership, I’ve decided to go with Toyota glass. With the new sensors in the windshield and calibration factors, it’s not worth the risk for me to take the chance of having problems with aftermarket.

How much is the dealership charging on the recalibration for the camera. I had mine replaced under warranty because it developed a very small air bubble in the top above the dot matrick line.

Go aftermarket with a good quality maker. I like PPG, Carlite,. AP tech. Automakers will usually write the specs for their model(s) and put it out for contract bid for a time or units, so you're getting aftermarket in a sense.

As someone suggested, safelite can usually get a good brand W/S because of their massive purchasing power and they should be easy to find if you need them to stand behind their work

    Good luck!
    Cheers!

My dealership said they were on back order for the factory glass around nov last year. Something like 750, however I was informed that they are making the new glass of better quality, mine is still a pilkenton window.

You are 2016, you have no sensor or calibration requirements...

The only thing you should have is the Go-pro mount on your '16. Not something I would worry too much about

I traded my 16 for a 19. The Toyota glass will be 750 and if calibration is needed, will be an additional 335.00.

Insurance is paying and agreed to replace with Toyota glass since my truck is only a couple of weeks old.

Yup, I've heard the same from a compadre with an 18. Last best year to buy Tacoma is 2017. This is just a symptom for my opinion. Hope it works out for ya

17-up you need to go OEM.
Even tho companies like pilkington make the OE glass, there is a recognizable difference between the glass they make for the OE and as a non-OE replacement option
