I bought my Tundra from Hertz. The price was ridiculously low. That is the upside to getting one that was rented. The downside is that it is flagged by Carfax as a former rental and undoubtedly will hit you on the trade. There is some risk to buying a former rental. I rent cars for work on the average of about 200 days per year. I can tell you that I have seen some that were flat out abused. I have also seen some that with 30K on them they looked brand new. Buying a rental has some risk, but you can also save a lot of cash. Like any used car you have to know what you are looking at. The good thing about the rentals is that Hertz does a great job of maintaining their fleet with regular oil changes and service. I have learned first hand that they will make you walk before they will rent a car that is due for its oil change. They also don't hide things. If something is broken, it is broken. You won't see them covering up things. Not that they are honest, they just don't waste the time. It is about volume for them. The put the cars out on their lot and if they don't sell, it is off to the auction.

In 2005 I bought a 2004 Solara former rental. I still have it, 210k miles and runs like a champ.
In 2012 I bought a six month old Frontier former rental. I traded it in 2015 and it was running perfectly fine.

Bottom line? It’s a gamble to purchase a prior rental vehicle. I personally don’t see enough savings to take a risk on buying one.

I bought a rental car for my parents probably 10 years ago and they are still driving it. Imho they can be a great deal.

When I think of rental I think of about a hundred people, away from home, eating an unfamiliar diet that their system isnt used to. There have been some rank farts power-injected into those seats.
