hell, if I had a 1st gen that failed the test, I'd go get the 1.5x book value and buy myself an even nicer truck! I dont really know why anyone would consider not taking the deal, other than the hassle of having to remove aftermarket parts beforehand and then find the new truck. Still more than worth the effort IMO

Yeah i agree it it def worth the money, but I know he just dumped a ton of money into his lift, bed cap, and wheels and tires. Probably almost as much as the truck is worth, bc he was planning on having it for another 5 years. I just didn't know if they would do something like not allow you to get your tags the next year or something.

Beechmount Toyota in Cincinnati replaced my frame on my 2001.:yay: I prefer the look of the generation 1's over the current model, and no monthly truck payments!

If given the option, I think this is what I would want to be done. I really like my truck and I think it'd end up costing quite a bit more than I'm able to spend right now to get a replacement to the same point. And as you said, the 1 gens look so much better and no payments.

Personally, I think the blue book is a bit on the low side anyway, specially when it comes to 1st gens.

I suppose one could always just buy another gen 1 with the buy back money, but then there's still all the other things. I'm really not sure I'd break even, even with the 1.5 blue book. If I could talk myself into being happy with the stock truck, that might be different.

As far as the original poster goes, I think he's pretty much stuck with a buy back unless he really wanted to pay someone to do the replacement with a junk yard truck in good condition.

This whole thing makes me really start thinking. I have an 06, and my frame looks like its starting to rust. (hopefully is not going to be a problem) but I know some people on here have had problems with rust developing on there 2nd gen frames. Has anyone had a buyback or a frame replacement on the 2nd gens?

Aw man! This thread has me depressed. My 2000 passed inspection two years ago, but last week, as I was getting new 33" tires and preparing to replace the rack and pinion, I noticed a spot of rust perforation on the frame, back by the rear axle, driver's side. I was pretty hyped thinking I was going to get a new frame. Now I'm depressed. I love the truck and don't want a newer one. I will never be able to buy a pickup equivalent to mine with the money they'll give me, even at 1.5X book. Argh!

If they won't replace the frame, then I guess I had better get this thing done, as the values will keep going down every month. This stinks. I know they're doing the right thing by their customers, and much more than any US car maker would do, but it still stinks.

Guy I work with has a "2000" and they didn't give him the option of buy back. He would have prefered the buy back cause there were other issues wrong. They replaced the frame, swing joints, springs, hardware etc.

The truck has to be able to move on it's own power. After all, the dealer has to move the truck on the lot and they have to get it on and off the hauler.

They will allow you to take your after-market items off. Have good tires and wheels? Get some beaters and that will suffice. Just so they can drive the truck.

Do the removal before turning in the truck!

Once you turn the truck in, it becomes the property of Toyota.
They don't want someone messing around with the truck after buying it. Someone gets hurt... you know the story. Some idiot would try to sue.

Some dealers "might" let you mess around later but I imagine the factory has said a blanket NO!
