Have a 200k 05; Looks like I can get a new drive shaft with center bearing and u joints for a few hundred bucks. There’s no specific damage to the current shaft itself but seems like I might as well replace the whole thing rather than deal with u joints and keep an old shaft. Reasonable or dumb?

How much is cheap? My buddy and I just rebuilt ours for about $150 each, 3 u joints, carrier bearing and clamps to grease the slip yoke

I just did my 3 u joints and carrier bearing (spicer) for $75. How much exactly is the complete shaft you can get?

If you’re old one is balanced and not giving you any problems just change the joints on yourself. No need to replace the driveshaft itself just the wear items.

I swapped my joints and bearing for a little over $100. I'd take the time and let the money get invested into another part for the rig. This all depends on how much wrenching you'd like to do but if you don't mind the truck being down for the better part of an afternoon it's not too complicated.

I bought an OEM driveshaft about 9 months ago. Not a great decision on my part because it came with non-greasable u-joints where the original driveshaft has zirk fittings that was a bummer. In the end, though, I know my drive shaft is good for awhile.
