I think it would take some engineering magic, but if they could make a reliable hybrid that could handle moderate off road use without issues i would be willing to give it a shot.

The EPA has giving auto manufacturers until 2027 to increase fuel efficiency by 25%. I think we will see at least 1 more round of new engines/gens in the next 9 years. Things are starting to get pretty good. I never thought I would be getting 25mpg on a v6 pickup but here I am. I'm excited to see whats next, I think there will be another major push/jump in technology soon

If anyone is buying a diesel, make sure you trade it in before the warranty runs out. These new diesel emission standards cost almost as much as a new car to replace if it goes bad. With that said, both my boss and his brother got new diesel Titan XD’s. One is the best of the best of the best (personal vehicle) and the other is as standard as they come (used at a mine for various tasks) and both have been in the shop for major repairs already. It’s only been 3 months.

I wish they did have a Tacoma diesel. Half the reason so people would stop taking about it. The other half so they would start bitching about how expensive ownership is

Exactly. They may pull like a beast and get great fuel mileage but when they take a dump, it’s usually a #3.

I wouldn’t even trust a Tacoma to pull 10k. Hell I wouldn’t even feel comfortable pulling what’s it’s rated for. But atleast if they went that route they would have to add rear disk brakes

I just looked again because it's been a while since I researched. I bring up one site after another. I didn't search the 2.8 specifically because that probably doesn't come up when people talk about their issues.

The mine vehicle I can see having issues. That kind of environment really requires a trail rated vehicle, just based on dust issues alone. 9 year miner here. I've seen just about every make and model take a shit on the mines. That really stinks on his personal vehicle though, I'm assuming he drives it to the mine for work everyday?

Speaking for my X5, I have approx 85k on it since I drove tons (had drive to Oregon a lot when my aunt was dying from cancer and driving was cheaper than flying). ONLY repairs I've had wasn't even related to the emission..it was more electrical/sensor related.
My brother lives in Sydney and his both his last Hilux has been diesels and not sure if you know but in Australia/New Zealand, Hilux diesel engines is a regular household name for decades. If anything, the American made diesel engines may be problematic more so.

I would love to have a diesel because I like taking 20 seconds to reach 60 mph lol. Everyone forgets those cute little hp formulas.

Hey man, I don't think anyone is doubting the diesel helix, its pretty legendary. American emission standards just suck

Have you driven a diesel in the last 20 years? Even my turd freightliner M2 hits 60 before 20 seconds, and that thing is the slowest vehicle I have driven in a long time

Toyota enjoys receiving steady income. With that in mind, they are highly unlikely to ever release a US Tacoma because then every American household would own one and they would only sell new trucks once they release new body styles, which isn’t that often.

Meh, America is very much a "throw away" society. I don't think that argument works too well. Just look at how popular leasing has become. It used to viewed as an obvious waste of money, now its pretty common place because "i drive a lot"
