I know what you’re talking about but that’s not really an issue in modern diesels. Been a while since I was in an old truck like that. I’m pretty young so wasn’t around in the time a lot of those trucks were in the road. I know the new powerstoke 6.7’s do a 0-60 in about 6.8 seconds. I would say that’s not bad at all

Yes. You do understand the HP formula right? That diesel torque is not free.

    Seriously ?
The diesel 0-60 time of almost 10 seconds and passing described as barely acceptable by motor trend. I think 1/4 is almost 18 seconds. In the case of the slow accel times it's a definite dealbreaker imo.
No way I would drive that. Get a dump truck instead.

Lol you gonna put a 6.7 in a midsize? I don't think so. I was being facetious at 20 sec. The real number is going to be around 9-10 sec 0-60 times for a mid size diesel. Compare it to 7 sec we have now with the 3.5 gas engine. Yeah.
OMG these diesel threads kill me. Guys, I feel like the adult telling my kids that Santa is not real. Sorry kids, Toyota is not going to offer a diesel.
If people really really want a midsize diesel, get a Chevy Duramax. 0-60 in 9.3 sec. Recent sales of the baby duramax put it around 8% of total Colorado/Canyon sales. That's around a thousand midsize diesel trucks sold. Wow.

Diesel has its place (towing heavy) for sure, but a midsize truck is not it. How hard is this logic to understand?

Well the mine vehicle, yes everyday. It’s a peat mine but yes dust is a factor. Light duty really, nothing extravagant. All times into shop were trans related. His Dodge Ram 1500 lasted 3 years and only went for a few minor things and maintenance. The other Titan, the boss’s truck, wouldn’t shift out of drive once then the other two times were emissions related. Not sure exactly what but they had it a week at a time.

You make good points, but you're statistics don't seem right, 8kish units sold per month, 8% being diesels, is over 5k diesel units sold this year

Think of the R and D it takes to design an engine. 5k a year is piddly. I would have to imagine that's a big financial loss for GM.

That may be true, but if he is trying to make logical arguments, then his statistics shouldn't be off by 500%, just sayin

They offer it to "buy the business," meaning they break even or lose money on certain models in order to attract and sell the higher margin models. Every company does it. Our company does it. Think about it... a guy has the hots for a diesel, goes and drives one, on test drive finds he can measure acceleration with a sun dial, drives the gasser, feels like a rocket and drives it home.

Absolutely true, you can reel in a single fish on a lure, but you catch more with a net. Even ones that weren't hungry

I would just like to point out that the maintenance on a diesel may be higher, but a top end refresh on the toyota diesel engine is recommended at 500k miles. How many gas toyota engines even make it to 500k?

Hi Singh, my take is you will love the Tacoma, these are very well built and capable trucks. You can probably get a pretty good deal on an '18.

Because that's 33 years of driving. Very few people drive the same vehicle for 33 years lol.

You will get Power Seats and Rear Disc Brakes before you ever get a Diesel in your Tacoma
