After watching, why would anyone want the diesel? Looking forward to Ranger comparison. Not to buy but just compare.

I live in the Southern part of Idaho (about 3800' elevation), I have a 2018 Tacoma Sport model and my friend has the 2018 Colorado Z72 model with the diesel engine. I average about 23 mpg with speeds up to 80 mph on interstate and he said he is getting about 25-28. his was also about 5k more price tag than mine and he says my truck has more options and looks better.

Yeah, he can tow a little more, but who wants to tow really heavy anyways with a midsize truck?

Talk to any dealer, they will tell you that 100k mileage is a magic number for drop in value of any vehicle.

The diesels of today aren't your dad's and grandpa's diesels of yesterday, people don't seem to realize that. With def/dpf you get less mpg and most importantly a less reliable motor since basically it puts all the crap back in the motor. Diesel prices are more expensive where I live anyway than gasoline plus you need to pay for def no thanks

A diesel Tacoma would be a hoot, but I doubt we'll get one. Toyota as a company is not known for taking risks. They pick a formula that works and they go with it.

Diesels today need more complicated emission control and all that, so that would mean designing a new, potentially-unreliable motor.

I mean, the Tundra has been the same thing for a decade. It's a great truck, but it's a great truck from 2007. Same for the Camry/Corolla. They are appliances.

Take a look at a used first gen or 2nd gen Tacoma. You'll see that rule doesn't apply to all vehicles.

    I don't think there is such a thing as a Colorado Z72, would either be a ZR2 or a Z71.

Really, most of the Toyota BOF vehicles seem to hold their value well. IIRC, the Tacoma and 4Runner have some of the highest average resale values in America.

I wish Toyota would put a diesel in the American Tacoma trucks, but that simply will not happen. I doubt Ford will do it in the American Ranger trucks too.

Especially, if you have the TRD Pro versions. You cannot beat driving a vehicle for a year or two and hardly having any depreciation.

Oops, yeah it's the ZR2 model. Just saw a glance of the sticker on the sides.

If I am not mistaken the ZR2 only has a tow rating of 5000 so your truck can even do better than his diesel.

Not sure, just going off what my friend told me with his towing.
