I did an engine swap once. Took me a week because it was my first one. Long story short i got a rebuilt 400 SBC for my chevy nova 2 days later all done with the install blew a piston take it back they rebuild it again and it's now in my car. Not really happy with it :( I fear the same will happen if i mess with my toyota.

    Engine ready to go in

You're wise to be cautious here. I ruined my grades one semester by taking on a "little" repair project on my bike that stretched out to all week, causing me to miss a week of classes.

Glad you decided to keep it. You don't want a 2011 when the new redesigned 2012 comes out soon, if the world doesn't end.

And even if the world doesn't end the 2012 is gonna be full of bugs so it will take another year to figure them all out and by then I'll hopefully be done with school!

If it wasn't for my daughter needing to go in the back I would have sold the 05 access cab I had and bought a truck like yours (except with the 22re) instead of the 05 double cab I have now. Granted I love my "new" double cab but of all the Toyota trucks I've (over a dozen) had the 89-95 body style extended cabs are my favorite from a practical standpoint. The 3.0 isn't fast (but it is a bit quicker than a 22re) and they suck on gas but they really can be reliable if you take care of them. One of my friends has one with over 250k on it running strong. From what I hear a 3.4 swap isn't all that hard if you can do the wiring and that would be plenty of motor and probably get better mileage than the 3.0.

good plan on keeping it, you have a very reliable truck, make it through college, get a good job and throw some money back until you have a good down payment. then buy a new one.. that one can be retired to weekend warrior duty.
