Buyer Beware:Bad Deal from Tacoma World Member

Hello to my fellow new members. I do not wish for this message to demean the overall membership in this forum who are helpful and honest. I love this forum, so please don't get me wrong.
Here's the story. I bought a 2008 Tacoma 4WD from the nicest, most honest guy. His sincerity and honesty were so palpable that I told friends "It was like buying a truck from Jesus Christ himself!" The mechanic I paid for the pre-sale inspection must've done a lousy job: He said, "It only has 50,000 miles on it. What could be wrong?"
4,000 miles later, I pay a Toyota dealership $7500.00 to fix problems the seller obviously knew about. Then I found the sellers postings on this forum as a "Well-known member since 2008." My wife and I got played, and very well. I paid out the nose because I figured it was my mistake and I'll pay for it to learn a lesson. I did not screw somebody else by selling the truck and it's problems to them.
LESSON LEARNED: NOT EVERY TACOMA WORLD MEMBER IS TRUSTWORTHY. DO YOUR HOMEWORK, PROCEED WITH CAUTION.

 

What problems did the truck have? That sucks, but it is the risk you play with buying used unfortunately.

 

Who was the alleged bad seller? Tag them in this thread so we can at least get their side of the story. Sounds like your mechanic may not be as good as he thinks. Any screenshots of the convo b/t you guys? I'd definitely want my money back from the mechanic and would never use him again. Sounds like he just took your money and used assumptions as his "inspection"

have you ever drained fluids and tried driving 4k miles bone dry???

that could easily rack up 7500 in dealer abuse

Just exactly what were the problems that the seller "obviously new about" that it took you 4,000 miles to discover?

Well, I only saw one listing for a 2nd gen under 50k (in the appropriate forum) with a member since 08, since 2018 that fit the bill, so is this your new truck?

jiffy lube drained the crank case and added motor oil in the trans...


you would be amazed how often this happens...

 

Ha! I saw that too, figured it was from swapping on the 4runner wheels and not putting TPMS back in them.

 

There's just A LOT missing from this story. Had it happened to me, I'd have thrown EVERYTHING out in the open. Details, we need details
