Parts and assembly are always going to be one of the smallest costs in the equation. Every unit also needs to shoulder the research, development, marketing, transport and distribution, packaging, warehousing, (and for apple) retail space. All of that plus real estate, labor, and corporate overhead. And then revenue needs to target a minimum 30% EBITDA on top of all that.


That's why things be priced the way they do. 'Cause a bunch of stuffed shirts have successfully argued the justification of their own paychecks.

 

This is one reason why knockoffs can undercut the real thing so much. The R&D needed to copy something that already exists is significantly less than what it takes to design something new.

If the knockoff has access to the same backend suppliers and manufacturing resources as the real item, then the originating company can be undercut even more.

Why would anyone purchase a BYND4X4 camper for $8k when it’s made in China when you can have a made in usa camper for about the same amount.

This bynd is being pushed by the influencers.

Because they lied and said their campers were designed and made here in the US, but people knew it was just from alibaba and started calling them out. So they shut out comments so people cant tell others.
