Buyer Beware: BYND4x4 "Tactical Cap"…Now With Lawsuits!

Just cruising Amazon I found what appears to be the exact ones I purchased (I think I paid ~$60 ea) a couple years ago, but with a long shipping ETA (China) and only $12. Seems sketchy at that price, but also looks identical.

 

Granted mine are tucked behind the grill, but the finish has kept up way better than I would expect. Might be different story on top of the rack.

Everyone that shits on this guy and his company have every right to! He claims to design, manufacture and produce these in the USA. Made in China with pics (that he posted to his IG story) to prove it. Which is a blatant lie to all his customers and potential customers. Customer service is non existent.

PLEASE SAVE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY FOR A BETTER PRODUCT LIKE ALUCAB

 

Geeze what a lying stooge. You can legitimately see the Chinese writing all over every box and tool in that photo. When I was back and forth emailing with him I did notice he was intentionally vague about where these were made. He claims "designed in the USA" which could mean he drew a box labeled "cap" on a piece of toilet paper with crayons and sent it to some Alibaba engineer to actually build.

Very glad I avoided this. Sidenote I have the Alu Cab Contour and it's amazing. 10/10

Also sidenote to my sidenote: obviously China is engrained in the world supply chain like a tick on a deer, so it's almost impossible to NOT have something at least partially made there. But claiming you design and build in the USA and then show these photos is blatant false advertising.

TacomaBeast just did a video two months ago promoting it. They promptly deleted my comment when I asked a question of where to buy as the link to theirs and the bynd 4x4 store is gone and if it was an Alibaba buy and rebrand.

 

I’ve posted in these various threads a few times but I think at the end of the day I couldn’t give 2 shits about some guy trying to make a profit off importing wholesale Chinesium and being honest about it. What I do give a shit about is a liar claiming these are made in the US. That starts treading into legal issues with the FTC.

This dumbfuck is also apparently already in legal issues with RSI which is no surprise when you start importing foreign copies and make false claims.

Good. Flat out lying or twisting the truth in business deserves to see guys like this dragged before a judge. Also, interestingly the legal sheet isn't just a simple cease and desist, it's an actual patent suit. That means he *possibly* was already told by RSI to knock it off (see what I did there) and didn't. Or, they believe that he's made enough sales to actually go after him for some big $$$.
Also, both he and the company are named as defendants. Typically if it was an LLC or whatever, they would go under and lose all of their assets but he'd walk relatively scott free. However, since he's named and has been very public about designing and building the cap himself (lie or not), I wonder if he could be found personably liable.

Also diving into the legalese here a bit, RSI filed a pro hac vice waiver, meaning they're bringing in some big lawyer (I'm assuming) from out of the county. Sounds like they really want to bury this guy.

Furthermore Bynd did get a C&D letter and ignored it. RSI is seeking full monetary reimbursement for all infringing products sold, attorney fees, and all other associated legal fees. Seeing the lawyers RSI is bringing in and the cases they've been on, purely speculating BYND has got to be on the hook for close to a million.


Man they're really trying to bury BYND monetarily too, seeking "increased damages".

 

Probably also because BYND is facing a major lawsuit from RSI. See my post above this one.

Wow, I'm not surprised to hear of this, I've never cared much for tacomabeast just from reviews I've seen. Interesting to see how this all plays out lol.

 

They are shady and dont want anyone to know that they just buy stuff from china and resell for huge markup.

 

Yeah they’re just another drop shipper who benefited from getting into the game early on.

Also never forget that they defaced a national park formation and blamed it on “a member of their crew”. Shmucks.

 

Honestly, this is the least egregious thing about tacomabeast and I think it's way overblown. It's scratches in a rock, man. Have you seen what trucks do the the rocks there? Regardless, the dude's whole business is selling garbage for 3-5x the price and convincing people to spend $50k in upgrades on their trucks.

 

Its funny really, iphones are made in China too, but you all have them and they cost way more than whatever that is. Fk China indeed, its sad how hard " MADE IN USA " is hard to find now days

 

The design is open source. It is being counterfeited.

Or, for the same price get a ute tray that has storage compartments, lengthens bed without sacrificing departure angle, and has flat loading or enclosed capability.

 

It’s funny, my YouTube feed has lately shown a few shorts and the Jessie guy from Tacoma beast has posted a few videos trying to promote these things . The full length video is pretty cheese .

 

These caps are all over Marketplace for as little as 2500.00. I can understand RSI taking action with BYND but what about the dozens of other sellers? The Marketplace sellers aren’t making false claims and seem to be honest about these being from China
