Buyer Beware: BYND4x4 "Tactical Cap"…Now With Lawsuits!

that's why i buy according to the pictures. despite most of the listings 'chingrish', i'm rarely disappointed. usually whatever is in the pictures is what shows up

 

I ordered D-rings off Amazon once it looked legit showed it on a real jeep. When I got it, it was big enough to go on a key ring, wasn't very happy.

 

I have RLD Designs. They are from South Africa. I’ve ran it for years. There’s a thread here by a supplier. From some people I’ve talked to, the dude here in the US is in a lawsuit with RLD. I’ve hit up the guy here many times with no replies at all. It’s a hit or miss with quality. Some guy’s paint flaked off. I haven’t had issues on mine far as paint. Only problem I have is replacing the hinges. I tried to source it from South Africa but it’s hundreds of dollars to ship it here.

though usually quite funny when one is buying 10mm bolts, and the bottom of the listing states "due to manual measurement, there might be a discrepancy of 1-2cm in measurements as listed"...

So I truly wish I saw this thread way back in July before I ordered this cap from Bynd4x4. Bought this thing and instantly saw it was a Chinese knock off when the delivery guy showed up to my house with it on a trailer in mid sept. This piece of crap was already showing massive surface rust right out the gate and couldn’t seal work a crap no matter how much I tried. I contacted Bynd4x4 and let me tell you the thread of emails were shooting massive red flags. I complained so bad they sent me a free aluminum cap which again massive red flag. It may have been great gesture at the time but now having the cap up here in the north east I’m waiting for it to completely to fail.

 

Looks like they've gone away from the standalone cap (probably because of said copyright issues) and are now launching their "tactical cap/camper combo." It allows for the use of the system as a standalone cap or attached to their own RTT and a passthrough panel system linking the parts. They have some videos out there on youtube and did an unveiling at some overlanding expo a few weeks back.

It actually doesn't look half bad but all the videos are uploaded on Youtube Kids which doesn't allow for commenting, I wonder why lol.

Oh and also their caps allow for opening from the inside. Might have considered this but I already picked up my SmartCap hahaha but who knows how good customer service/quality would be.

I actually just purchased this platform yesterday. I don’t know if I should call my bank to cancel the transaction or just ride it out. For the price you can’t beat it.

 

Isn’t that thing like 8,000.00? I don’t know the specs on it but I’d rather get something from Topo, Oru, Lone Peak, Harker etc, least you know what you are getting

Well like I mentioned it actually doesn't look half bad. And the clincher is the ability to open it from the inside, something that RSI Smartcap hasn't been able to implement for years now..

Everytime you buy something you always roll the dice, even if it's not Chinesium.

Also, sometimes Chinesium can turn out to be pretty good.

There's a company that knocks off Roofnest Rooftop Tents on Amazon for about half the price. It's called Naturenest and they've all got really good reviews for customer service and quality of the tents.

Also, I've noticed that a lot of Chinese companies are less hesitant to send replacements out due to their costs of manufacturing being so low. There was a review for one of the Naturenest tents on YouTube that arrived with a dent on the hard shell and the company sent out a replacement tent and didn't even ask for the cosmetically damaged one back.

I wish you the best on that purchase and you should definitely let us know how it turns out.

 

Topo Toppers are an excellent choice and also manufactured here in California. I think it starts at about $7k too.

 

I’m not sure who in their right minds would buy one from them…harken is still doing their 6k deal…topo is 7k….




The whole idea of removing the top is a great idea in theory till you have to do it.i bought a Chinese version off alaibaba for 3k shipped. It’s basically same as the bynd. I can say I would never pay 6k for what they are asking for.

Yes they are look at the link I just posted... These guys are ripping people off while making big money in there pocket, 1300$ free shipping buy bulk and they are probably paying 900$ to 1000$ per Chinese Caps, Same goes for FORM tail lights they can be purchase..

What's the story with diode dynamics?

 

there FORM tail lights are fucking trash, plus as you can see from the link they buy them from a china retailer and slap another name, But on the box of the tail lights its printed in bold lettering Made in China.
i ended up sending them back, first time they saw this winter they had plenty of moisture build inside the lens....
But they make it sound like they came out with a new tail light they made lol, when in reality they are made in china and just source out from a china retailer....

 

Oh, I've seen those. Didn't know they were affiliated with diode dynamics, can't find those specific tails on their website. I have some DD products and they have always been quality.
