No buyers remorse here, but think I would have been just as happy with an SR5 4x4 w/ town package compared to my TRD Sport 4x4 with tow package. Don't get me wrong, the TRD Sport 4x4 is awesome. I did buy it on impulse though because it was last October and there were not many new Tacomas in Denver at all, and I wanted on NOW. Luckily they weren't marking them up at the two dealerships I went to and actually was able to get a decent deal and bid one against the other and also get a great trade in on my Subaru.

The soft throttle programming is a huge disappointment. If you stay on the pedal it moves but holy hell the lag is really bad in the Auto. Special thanks to the fuel economy police for that.

Imho the sport has always been a gimmick package since conception. No added functionality just pure form over function

I disagree. It does look better, and let's be honest as far as capability it's way more truck and way more capable of a truck than 99% of us even need. If anything, for what most of us use the truck for, the OR is more of a gimmick. Do you really need Crawl Control to hop a curb in the grocery store parking lot? And you get janky unpainted fenders. I think the Sport is kind like the best of both worlds. A VERY capable OR truck that looks better than the OR.

I think it's hilarious that most people think that the OR is the only Tacoma that can drive down a freakin' dirt road!

I'll take painted fenders, a hood scoop and a sungless holder (!) and a better on-road suspension over the OR any day because I have no use for Crawl Control, locking rear diff (and if I did I'd put something in way better than the OEM locker) but still will conquer anything I care to tackle off the beaten path.

Everyone always cites the OR being the "better value" blah, blah, but if you don't use those features than that stuff is just a waste for that driver.

Ok, but is the sport any more capable than an sr5? No. Just prettier and more creature comforts. Whats so TRD about that? Whats sporty about that? And my Prerunner does fine on dirt roads, what's your point? I've gotten stuck off road, sure. I've seen plenty of sport 4x4 stuck off roaf too. I've rarely seen off road 4x4 stuck.

All depends on the driver. Shit, a 2wd 4cyl base model with an experienced driver is more capable than a TRD Pro with a moron at the wheel. Buy what you like.

Gas pedal lag / soft throttle programming response can be minimized by using High Test/Premium grade gas only. No lie it makes a difference. The nock sensor circuitry/ ECM are doing their job keeping the engine from detonations/pinging and self destruction/ burning holes in pistons when on regular gas. Like most things in this world, if you want to play, it is going to cost. In this part of the country high test/premium grade is 25 – 35 cents more per gallon than regular – ouch. As has been experienced with our V6 Camry w/auto that has an electronic throttle.

Yeah, the Sport is PPRREETTY, always has been – a real mall stomping wagon. And as for that sexy Skewp, real sexy (thought I already said that.) It always seems to manage to reflect/ redirect sunlight directly into the drivers face. Gotta love that Sport Taco!

I have 7500 miles on mine. Got it the beginning of November (I've put some miles on her). A few minor bugs like the howling, which was fixed. Overall, so far so good.

My Sport came with the hood decal, so glare is nonexistent. I've found that actually engaging the ECT decreases pedal lag. No kidding!

Sbpark, It's great to know that TMC recognized the Skewp issue and put on a decal on the hood to minimize the glare problem experienced with the 2-gen TRD Sport trucks. So far, I have not seen a '16 Sport at my local dealership in New England. Currently I'm looking for a Skewp Hood decal like the one SockMonkey offered several years ago here on TW.

It's an actual accessory offered by Toyota that you can buy for the '16's. I didn't want it, but when I bought my truck inventory in Colorado was slim pickings, and I wanted the truck then, not later and it was already on the truck. I can see how it serves a purpose now.

I agree with you. This is why the Sport cost less in 2nd gen. I think they wised up and saw that people bought the sport because it cost less. Please probably still think it costs less than the OR.

Lots of people go into the pricing threads and ask why both TRD packages cost the same after they inspect the spec sheets.... Toyota is going to make a lot of extra money on the Sport.
