Agreed I was just showing the mid class vehicle from 20 years ago was roughly the same when inflation is accounted for

I just sold my 2017 Civic Si. First thing I did was acknowledge that the Tacoma is a truck therefore I don't expect it to behave like my Civic or any performance oriented car. Second, I approach the driving experience of the Tacoma like a meditation session. I listen to the unique growl of the V-6, feel the raw mechanical feel of the shifter, gaze over the flat prominent hood. The joining together of all these things makes for a visceral driving experience. With this, I am just as satisfied lumbering around in the Tacoma as taking off-ramps in the Civic at 80mph. Just make the most of the driving experience no matter what you are driving. If that does not help, watch few Petrolicious vids on Youtube. Just chill out and enjoy your Tacoma!

Agree with this^ also you should not have to upgrade/tune the transmission on a brand new truck.

It had 40k miles already. It was a rental. It has a lot of little things I missed when I went to go see it. I’m paying 5% interest. I hate that it doesn’t have the integrated maps. My wife is happy with it though.

When I got my tacoma I traded in a 2014 2door jeep wrangler. Driving the Tacoma feels like a sports car in comparison. Its smoother both in ride quality. The auto shifts way better, when going up a hil the tranny double down shifts and accelerates. It's all a matter of perception.

Go test drive a lifted 2 door wrangler on 35" tires with 3:21 gears and an auto. After a 15 minute test drive you will be loving your truck and thanking me.

    OP,
I went from a 2017 stage 2 golf r to a 2019 Taco, 1 week ago. I loved that car to pieces. Unfortunately, the dealer totaled it during a test drive after warranty repairs. Some unknown force did not want me in that car. It had issues too and was at the dealer often.

This truck is the antithesis of a golf r and I actually appreciate that. I had to take a step back and look at what my needs really are. I can do more with this truck. I can go more places. I'm not afraid to put miles on it. It's growing on me everyday I drive it. Oh it's flawed. No doubt about that. These are flaws I can live with, though. I'm sure I made a good decision. These things have a cult following for a reason. Something about toughness & reliability?

I think you’re gonna find having a truck with a young family is pretty indispensable. Good luck.

OP, there are usually two types of people that join these forums, enthusiasts and the ones that have problems. Out of millions of Tacomas on the road we have maybe 20-30, make it 50 members that are complaining or possibly regretting their decision. This alone should be enough to sway you back in to the saddle. Stop listening to negative comments, you can't please them all. I've had my Taco for a little over a month and I love it more every day for what it is and I am planning on keeping it for a long while.

The Tacoma, for all it's faults, is still the best thing out there in the class. You want a Colorado? I thought so. How about a Ridgeline? Ranger? Don't make me laugh.

Jeep Gladiator is somewhat interesting but knowing Jeep it will be overpriced with the reliability of Fiat Chrysler so that's a no-go.

If you want a classic mid-size pickup then look into the Frontier. It's ancient but it works.

Sounds like you need to quit taking stock of what everyone else says and decide for yourself. Are you really disappointed in the performance an comfort of the truck? Is it because you came from a BMW?

If you are really wanting performance and comfort, a full size does those things much better.

Only if you want a clapped out noisey truck with caveman amenities. :D

If you didn't want to go full size, I'd imagine the comfort would be better with a Ridgeline. Not having ridden in one, but the Pilot is quite comfortable.

    Performance? Maybe.

Exactly..! The Tacoma is a truck, not an engineering marvel. I too have had the fortune to own German designed luxury (Mercedes GL550 and E400)... its ludicrous to compare driving experience between the two. Enjoy the truck for what it is, versus what it is not.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!
GO buy a Ridgeline and you will have the "comfort" you seek and have a "sort-of-a-truck" The Honda dealer you trade with will be gloating as they will "think" they have a "victory" over Toyota.
But don't come back here bitchin -"it is not a real truck"-cause it ain't

Not buyers remorse, but I do miss my 2nd gen, which was totaled, so I never made a decision to trade.

Things I don't like: severe lack of low end torque on the 3.5, weird shift points.

Things I do like: A lot better at passing/acceleration at speed vs my 2nd gen, with the exact same size tires. Sport mode is pretty neat.

I've only got around 3k miles on mine but I haul a bed full of green firewood about 5 nights a week, and had it at AoAA with 200 miles on it

I had a 1973 Chevrolet 3/4 ton truck in college. No ps, pb, or ac. Manual roll up windows, etc, etc.
Now that was a while ago, but everything I've owned since seems pretty darn nice.
It's all about perspective. You can't compare a Tacoma to a BMW.

another thing to do when the urge to trade/sell hits? go get it dirty, then get your detail stuff out and spend some quality time with your truck. seeing my truck clean always puts a huge smile on my face!
