    Hi guys,

    I have a 3rd gen but I really want a 1st gen.

My question is... If a buy a 1st gen with a new frame replaced by toyota is it a good bargain because I see alot of 1st gens being parted out due to rotten frames. I can just replace the engine/ tranny/ parts from scrapped trucks for life.

Also are the replacement frames coated like the post 2011 models

a new frame would be a major plus but I would recommend getting more info on when it was done and where it has since spent its life. Example, I’ve seen frames that have been replaced early in the 2010 be completely rusted out.. but I’ve also seen west coast trucks that have the og frame that look brand new. Really depends where the truck has lived..

be sure to check frame where the gas tank is and also where the rear shocks mount.. those are the two place you’ll really see frame rot.

if truck has over 80K make sure timing belt, water pump, and Lower ball joints were done recently. I went from a third gen to 1st gen and absolutely love my truck.

Are you sure the newer ones were coated?. I was under the impression that they were not.
Keep in mind that many 1st gen replacement frames are now older than the original frames that they replaced. If the replacement frame wasn't treated (I use Fluid Film) the truck may be ready for its 3rd frame.

I don't think they're coated like that. They certainly don't look like it.

Right now I'm trying to find a replacement frame in a low salt state and once I get it. It's getting coated in synthetic oil.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Even the replacement frames need lots of love on a yearly basis!Fluid Film , Wool wax type products.

Many have failed already from owner neglect if you are in a area that sees winter chemicals .

    No second Chance!

For the coating I just use mobile 1. My grandpa used to use motor oil and he was a heavy tank mechanic during ww2.

At the end of they're all fat based coats. Wool wax & fluid film are lanolin based. Which is naturally derived sheeps wool. Funny enough lanolin is the ingredient used to synthesize Vitamin D3 for supplements.

I'd say fluid film & woolwax adhere thicker. Oil would need to be put on accordingly but I never had rust while using it.

Twice annually for me. Right before winter and in spring. I don't offroad though.
