"NADA" is used a lot more than KBB now. My wife is a lone officer and they do not use KBB. Price it using NADA and see what you get!

    Good Luck

depends where you are in he country I guess, down here in the south its just the opposite and KBB is the go to trusted number and NADA prices are not realistic so unless they recalibrated how NADA sets prices since the beginning of this year, I dunno :notsure:

FWIW most dealers around here use either NADA or edmunds for pricing - KBB isn't the standard anymore

I have been thinking about replacing my 2003 4wd extra cab sr5 with the new 2016 when it comes out. I just checked the NADA on my truck and with 249k on the odometer it still worth over 10K. As a owner I'm very happy but I think that is a bit much for a 12 y/o truck, no matter what kinda of shape its in. I would say mine is better than most with a new frame and replaced head on the 2.7 all in the last year or 2.

    Hi Chris,

Do you have part numbers of what you replaced? Also, was it something you were able to replace yourself or have to hire a shop to do? I am not familiar with replacing the mounts but I like to do things myself. :)

EDIT: is this the one? http://www.autozone.com/external-en...0/4-cylinders-l-2-4l-efi-dohc/130442_0_12553/

OP, politely suggest you ignore this post, as it's bad intel. I do agree that PS fluid in normal street driven vehicles is an no need item, but 11 year old brake fluid is not proper maintenance. Anyone who thinks they can tell the condition of a lubricant, coolant or hydraulic fluid by looking at it is, well,

If you have documents showing the last fluid changes, use those as your next interval guide.

Lacking those, change them all, and give yourself a proper baseline to work from.

You don't have to change them all at once, but I'd make a plan and work through them after you figure out what products you want to use.

And your paint should buff up nice.

    Good find!

Yea, I have some good documentation on the truck so I will be able to use that as my interval guide. I plan to switch to Mobil 1 full synthetic on the next oil change.

As for the paint.. it looks and feels like matte white lol. Can this really be buffed to a shiny luster? It's almost like the clear coat is gone.

White has no clear coat. You'll be working directly on the color.

There may be plenty of paint left to work with, or not, depending on how much it's been 'handled' previously.

Start with the roof (more out of sight) and work slowly. You'll likely need at least a 4 step process. Be careful around the edges things (doors, hood, etc) and any ridges in the body lines, as those are locations the paint is naturally thinner.

Wash, nanoskin autoscrub (instead of clay), 3 grades of progressive grit polish should get it pretty nice. Then decide how you want to finish. I'd recommend Collinite 845 for a durable finish, and you can topcoat it with something if you want more luster.

I did a whole Sienna in a day an a half, and I'm old and slow. It was an '04 at 190k of Florida sun, and came out almost like new.

Porter Cable polisher is a must. If not that, you'll become the Karate Kid.

    These trucks are
way over priced and over valued imo. Come on $7000 for a 15 year old single cab 4cy truck, ridiculous. And then there's the idots on Craigslist trying to sell a 2001 for over 20k just cause its under 100,000 miles.

Maybe, but it's what's called a free market. What a seller is willing to sell for if they don't have to sell, what a buyer is willing to pay if they don't have to buy.

There maybe some folks who have to sell. But there is no one who has to buy it, because there are other choices.

If people quit paying the price, the price will drop.

But the glitz is off Toyota and Tacoma. Still cruising on the past rep, just like Honda. I mean Brittney and Paris are out of the headlines (finally) and Toyota is right behind.

I actually wish Hyundai and Mazda would make a small pickup, and Nissan would shrink and improve theirs, just to rattle things a little on the new side of things.

Those were the ones I used for the engine mounts. I ended up with the Toyota transmission mount. The toyota transmission mount is pretty soft compared to the aftermarket mount (which I had bought from Amazon). Not sure if the new Toyota tranny mount made much of a difference to my shifter lever movement.

The engine mounts are pretty easy to change:
    1. Remove skid plates
    2. Remove radiator fan & disconnect air filter housing top.
    3. Remove nut & bolts from driver side mount.
    4. Use jack under oil pan (I have an engine hoist, but went ahead and used the jack under oil pan. Be sure to have block of wood/rubber between jack & oil pan...heh Haynes can't be wrong right?)
    5. Raise engine, it'll tilt to the passenger side, raise it enough to clear the engine mount, but don't raise it anymore than absolutely necessary. Raising the engine lifts weight off the truck suspension, so entire truck will raise with the engine for a few inches.
    6. Remove old mount
    7. Insert new mount, thread & tighten *top* nut - make sure locator pin in the top of the mount is inserted correctly.
    8. Lower engine so new mount rests on frame.
    9. Use rubber mallet to knock new mount until bolt holes line up, then insert/tighten bolts.
    10. Repeat for other side
    11. Attach fan, clamp air filter lid

Having just spent many months searching for the right tacoma (and thankfully buying it at the beginning of the week) I feel that I understand the pricing problem quite well. As was mentioned earlier in the thread, in a free market sellers can ask as much as they want and as long as a minority are willing to pay that price then everyone else has to make the choice of either paying that price or not getting what they want.

To the OP: I know what you went through! So many trucks looked at, phone calls, trucks sold out from under my nose right before I was supposed to go and look at them. It was at the point where I was calling dealers up well before the truck had even gone through service and inspection let alone detail or even hit the lot. Out of the trucks that I actually got to go see, one was an 08 with 144000 that needed 2 grand of work (most importantly new clutch but a couple other things as well). They were asking 14G for it! That's 5grand more than it's worth easily.. When I took it to my family's trusted mechanic/partner in crime, he laughs and proceeds to disclose to me that the truck was wheeled to the point that there were ears of corn poking out of every gap in the engine compartment. Another truck I looked at was an 03 that needed $1200 of work done and the dealer wanted 11G, although alluded to the fact that he would take 10 or possibly just under. Again, this was above Edmunds/KBB by 5G and I wouldn't have paid over 8.5 for it.

After all my trials tribulations and searching I ended up looking at an 02 listed at 7G with 167000 miles. It was in great condition, only needed water pump leak fixed and a new windshield (along with all my much-needed upgrades:cool:) and when the mechanic walked in from checking it out he grinned and said "I think this is the one!" Ended up buying that sweet truck for 6.5 and I couldn't be happier. So, from one ecstatic recent buyer to another: CONGRATS brother. Even though I paid a grand over KBB it was worth it to me both because of how much I wanted a clean Tacoma, and also due to how ridiculously hard I had found it to be to beat all the morons that will throw 5G to the wind just because. Great trucks, just getting horribly overvalued at this point in time. It would seem that people have realized that 5 years from now Toyota will be just like any other car manufacturer. The 1st gen was great, the 2nd gen made some improvements yet also hinted at the inevitable demise of the Tacoma, and now quite soon we will get to see the bitter ending to such a beautiful line of trucks.:sadviolin:

5 years from now? How about 8 years ago?

They started down that slope in the '90s when they killed off the Supra.

They became truly plain Jane around 2006 when they shut down the MR2.

And no, the BRZ/FRS twins are not a suitable replacement, nor is NASCAR involvement.

Hey guys.. About my new taco would it be wise to change the oil with Mobil 1 full synthetic? I am not sure if the prior owner used synthetic or not. It has 100k miles and I think I heard that it won't be beneficial to use synthetic it regular was used for the life of the truck?
