ya I'm thinking so i was just curious what the value should be, I was thinking 26-28k with no options for a 2wd. I want to negotiate with the dealer but they are getting on my nerves, they keep showing me trucks with less options for more money haha

Search and read the online reviews/write ups on the 4 cylinder :puke:

If you are towing a boat with 2wd = :help:

Don't jump into something you'll regret.

Resale is very important when leasing or for those who want a new truck every couple years.

Reliability has more than been proven. The engine has been used in Lexus GS350s for years, Because of Toyota reliability they have a 72% residual after three years.....Not much white sheet mechanics on the new Tacoma.

Resale is what got me out of a new 15 into a new 16 for $6000, $2000 of which were options I did not have on my 15 TRD Sport. Try that with a 2015 Colorado.

GM never held a candle to Toyota. They bamboozled the public with their key fiasco and wait times are far far longer here for service...even Paid service. Toyota has always stepped up to issues whether frame issues or bad gasket material back in the 90's QDR is real.

I have had three GM vehicles , two of them Halo cars in their Corvette line. I know how bad GM service is and the wait times are incredible around here. It took three service techs 45 minutes to discover my tires had no TPMS sensors.

get back to me when it comes time to sell your truck and tell me how you feel then. first, most people don't keep them 300K miles - second, good luck having a nissan or colorado go 300K miles... (hence the reason for the resale value - the resale value is a direct reflection of the expected/actual reliability). my 2004 tacoma with 70K miles goes for near $18-20K now, 12 years old! It was $24K new! A friend of mine wanted to buy his daughter a truck preferably a Tacoma he said, but ended up buying her a Chevy because they were about half the price... so yes, it matters a lot.

This is by brand overall with GM in the upper tier. Not as high as Toyota overall but pretty good still. Again, totally new trucks with new powertrains and a much better warranty to protect you.

Resale values aren't entirely based on longevity either. A lot of it has to do with supply and demand for those particular vehicles. If demand is high, so is the value of course. I am not anti-Toyota either. I am here because I really like the Tacomas as well as the Colorados. Just not sure which one I like the most yet and playing a bit of devil's advocate to the comments here.

In all fairness I had to sell my 15 Tacoma privately to get the difference palatable. I sold it to someone with a used car lot who was going to resell it and I still got $1900 more than trade. ..

IF people were smart , they would never trade a Tacoma. I never have. I sold both of mine privately for an avg of $4000 more than trading would have brought and there is no tax advantage to trading here so.....why do it?

There are a lot of buyers looking for used tacomas and those on dealer lots are far more expensively priced. In fact dealer asking prices HELP the private sales immensely. The thing is one much hold the title to make it easy on the buyer otherwise it takes more trust on the buyers part they will get the title. Its easy to do but when there is a payoff, green buyers get skiddidh.

Be very careful using data like this - it measures a very specific and narrow set of data. For example, the link you provided ONLY contains "The study, now in its 26th year, examines problems experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of 2012 model-year vehicles." In addition, the top problems noted were issues with Bluetooth, something frankly that doesn't concern me much but can really skew the data from other more critical issues.

And regarding supply/demand... it is directly impacted and positively correlated to reliability, and in turn reflected in the price.

You always lose that much trading in immediately. First of all you don't get your taxes back. Then you also go from premium brand new to used which kills thousands right there. Plus the mileage and wear and tear difference as well. If you bought a $36,000 Tacoma today and traded it in tomorrow I guarantee you wouldn't get but $28,000-$29,000 for it. Plus lose all your taxes and fees.

    http://www.edmunds.com/chevrolet/colorado/2015/consumer-reviews.html?sub=crew-cab
    http://www.edmunds.com/toyota/tacoma/2015/consumer-reviews.html?sub=double-cab

Both 4.5 ratings on edmunds user reviews.

    http://www.fuelly.com/car/toyota/tacoma
    http://www.fuelly.com/car/chevrolet/colorado

Ratings for fuel on fuelly are 1.4 better for the Colorado. (Keep in mind that the gap will widen when the diesel is released.) Over 100k miles that amounts to a fuel cost of $13,888 for the Tacoma of 18 mpg avg at a fuel cost of $2.50/gallon. For the colorado at the same price for fuel and 19.4 mpg avg, the total fuel cost is $12,886. So there is $1,000.00. Double it if you keep the trucks for 200,000. That alone eats up resale value for those that want to sell their trucks.

Also, if Chevy has rebates, which they usually do, that makes a difference. They are often in the $2,000 range for midsize vehicles. Tacomas will rarely have one and IF they do, it is about $1,000. If you are military, there is a big difference too:
    https://www.toyotafinancial.com/pub/w/#planning_center/financing_options/buy/military_rebate
    http://www.chevrolet.com/military-discounts.html
$500 for Toyota. $1500 for Chevy. Plus $750 for USAA for Chevy.

My point is this. Add up all that money, which in my best estimate for someone like myself can add up to $3,000-4,000, and you can say financially it is a better deal for the Colorado.
However, I would also need to add a leveling kit or 2 inch lift on the Colorado to give me the clearance I would want that the Tacoma basically already has and in that case you give some of that money up.

Get on the Interwebs and shop the price. There are at least 15 other Toyota dealerships within 90 minutes of Gettel who advertise the same truck $3K lower.

Cost of ownership isn't the only factor in my decision-making for a truck purchase. That is one aspect I mentioned.
