Whatever the dealer is asking for the truck offer them at least 3k less than the sticker price.

Get pre-approved at a financial institution of your choice. You can save at least 2% points.

If you're bank is too high, then check your insurance agent (believe it or not). I found out State Farm is in the banking and loan game. I got a great rate and as a little bonus they include a price value protection policy that covers the difference between what you owe and what the vehicle is worth should your car be totaled.

I shopped my financing beforehand and then gave it to the finance lady at the dealer and she beat it.

    I did this as well^^
I didn't think Toyota could beat the credit union where we had been pre-approved, but they did.

Do you have a particular model Tacoma you are wanting? Something like Pro Model will probably not move off MSRP. Also if you want a manual trans be prepared to wait a little.

Walk away from the deal once. Unless they give you a great deal to start.

    Check nada.com for invoice pricing.

Same here, plus the Fed raised rates a quarter of a point and she still beat the credit union rate.

Wait. For. The. 2018. If you're good with buying brand new off the lot, and get pre approved to do so, then do so. You'll be getting the 3rd installment of the 3rd gen, most problems will be sorted out by now, plus you get the power rear window because 16's are good at begging.

This is totally fair. You only have to wait a few more months for the 2018s too....

OK but not sure about this part. We're still dealing with issues from 2nd gen on the 3rd gen. From 2016 to 2017 they still didn't even do something as simple as address the Lower Control Arm holes causing howling. I doubt 2018 will change much if at all. The 2nd gen had many issues for all 10 years of production and the 2009 model year (4 years into production of the 2nd gen) was by far one of the worst of the entire generation.... so you just never know what you get from year to year.

Debatably true. However, by waiting for the new model, you are given the chance to compare instead of settling on what already exists without giving yourself the chance to see the options/performance for the newer model

TBH, I'd wait for the 2018s to hit the lot but not just to buy a 2018...instead to see if you can squeeze the dealer a little more on pricing one of the existing 2017s a bit more competitively.

Of course it depends on year, but the howling is minor compared to the schizophrenic tranny. And of course you can always talk down on a 2017, but you have a 2018 sitting right next to it for complete comparison. TBH I decided about a week ago to go test the F-150, just testing, nothing else o_O and I was able to test drive both the 1st gen 3.5 with the 6spd auto vs the 2nd gen 3.5 with new 10spd auto, I for sure would want a 2017 F-150 with the 10spd, but the 16 right next to it had dropped 10k off MSRP. Haggle away!

I'm shocked that the dealer where I go has a new 2016 still on the lot amongst about 25 2017's
