Youtubing is nerdy, technical thing to do with your time when you don’t have many friends. That’s why there’s so many 4Runner youtubers, and not many taco people.

I’ve had all 3 generation Tacomas in manual, with almost 600k miles between all 3, and the 3rd gen is by far the most crisp and solid feeling of the bunch. If it’s clunky, it’s because I’m driving sloppy.

    Haha! I agree:

    -my paddle shifters squeak
    -meso paddle shifters mod
    -paddle shifters stolen!
-paddle shifters chat and BS thread

    I see it all now.

Agree on clunkiness when being sloppy.

Man, you really should drive 80s american MT pick up trucks, then you will really know whats sloppy and clunky.

Even my 2007 ranger drove like a tractor, was a solid machine though.

not a toyota MT guy but in my experience (not 50 years old) the more aggressive i drove my MT the smoother it got. the clunk usually came when engaging the clutch far from where the engine should be in the RPM range for the speed/gear.

I mailed Rob Motive a selection of horse steroids. Should help him get a little more aggressive.

I don't share RobMotive's opinion about the MT. I have felt clunks, but it has gotten better over time and with more experience with the truck, about 4 months and 3k miles now. I certainly don't agree that it's overly loud. I do agree with above that it doesn't appreciate sloppy footwork. I think he just needs to have more experience with his - he's had it about 5 minutes, and has done nothing with it except put a lift and 20 in wheels and tires on it, other superficial mods, cold starts, and drive around town. My disappointment with his content is that he doesn't do anything, or go anywhere. His channel, his opinion, so he can do what he wants, and that's cool - he gets views. I just have trouble finding credibility there. With this video it seems an oddly strong and negative opinion for such a short amount of time with it.

I just severely appreciated someone roasting the manual transmission. I love Tacoma world, but I cannot stand 99% of these “save the manual” bimbos

I’m all for them canceling it. I’m going to drive my truck another 200k miles hopefully, and sell it to someone dying for a manual 10 years down the road.

I get that. The whole "Toyota ought to do X because it's what we want" narrative is silly. Toyota is like any other business - making money is the bottom line, and to them reliability and value is where they make money. If Toyota is still making MTs, it's because it is still profitable to do it. The fact that they only make 5% means that that is what they have calculated as the cutoff where it doesn't disrupt their production, and they don't end up with unsold inventory. They answer to shareholders. Good for us if we benefit from a solid vehicle. We will buy them with whatever they offer, even if the MT goes away, which I think it will in a few years. They'll make other improvements that will make people forget the MT eventually.

Clunks? I don't have no stinking clunks, well, when I don't get lazy anyway.

You want clunky? I had this 73 Suburban with a 4 speed with granny low first gear. Thing could pull a house down, but damn was it a bitch to drive smooth. And the shifter? Thing was about 3 feet long, for 3rd gear you just kinda threw the stick towards the glove compartment.

Then there was the 78 CJ5 with a 3 speed manual. Yeesh that thing sucked. Yet I taught my little sister to drive stick in it, in a couple hours she was cruising around like a pro.

No the Tacoma is not a frigging Miata, but it's just fine. Practice makes smoothness.
