    Hi all,
I am fairly new to Tacomas and was shopping around for a car and came across this deal.
2003 Tacoma 2WD Xtracab AT 80,000 miles. I have checked the undercarriage and there is minimal rust as the truck mainly resided in Arizona and New Mexico. After negotiating extensively, the seller is asking for $12,500. This number seems high to me but the truck is extremely low mileage and it is a seller market because of the chip shortage. Does this sound like a good deal to y'all?

    Added pictures.
    Engine is V4 2.4 liter

At that mileage I would say it's a good deal.

    Nah it’s overpriced for a base 2WD 4 banger.

The most attractive quality of the car to me is the mileage because I plan on using it for my business and need it for the long haul.

Honestly, for your needs I would be searching for a Nissan Frontier. You will get a lot more truck for the money with the same durability. Welcome by the way. Also not trying to be a smartass. Like, really. Look for a comparable Frontier.

I’d be checking all the rubber components/suspension. It’s obviously been sitting a good bit and that’s never a good thing for a car of that age.

Thanks for the advice. Are there any model years for the Nissan Frontier that I should look at which have less problems. I read somewhere that 2005-2010 tacomas have rust easier due to some factory issue. (Just something I read)

Do you test that on the test drive or is that something I should have a mechanic inspect?

I’d personally take it to a mechanic to look it over if I was buying one of that age and price. Pretty small investment to make sure you’re not paying for a project.

I am seeing a lot of dents and dings in the bed and road rash, peeling bumpers, scratches. Also see drivers seat has sag on edges. Big guy was previous owner or more miles than posted. At that price you would think they would have it detailed. I saw a nicier Alabama truck a few months back going for $8500 with simular miles and cleaner body. Offer them $8000 max and walk when they refuse that offer. Make sure they have your number. Im betting youll get a call. Its not a 4 wheel drive so they should not think they are going to get that kind of price.

Not that I know of but I am also not super familiar with the Frontier other than knowing several people who have had them with good service, they are just as durable but do not hold value like the Tacoma. From what it seems those are all huge benefits for you.

Thanks. That is around the logic I was thinking with. Its not in very good/prime condition and its is a very base truck with not a lot of options. They were started at $15,500 which is ridiculous and they are pretty hellbent on $12,500 so we will see.

That truck probably sold new for less than $20k so keep that in mind. In my opinion anything over $8k is to much for this one.

Honestly man, as somebody who used to own one of these, I'd never do it again. Get the prerunner, the lack of suspension travel on these drove me insane.

To be honest, if that was a good price, it would be gone already. You wouldn’t even have time to think about it.
