Buying a new 3rd Gen

Had I had more time, I would have sent you the note of "got any.... in stock" I think Lynwood Toyota had six of DCLB I was looking for, one in Voodoo Blue but a bit of a drive from Austin, TX.

You should have a TW special with "includes Wallmart tent an sleeping bag, flying and visit the PNW".

 

We dealer trade with Magic Toyota on a weekly basis. We have great relationships with all the 75 dealers in our region and I will try to find customers what they are looking for. I did the same. August 2020, knew the best price in my area (front range Colorado), worked with multiple dealers, found the truck I wanted, worked out the price, went in and bought it next day. 6 miles on it. Super pumped to this day on it.

 

No schooling intended. That’s the situation where I live. There are many more buyers than Tacoma’s here. You don’t have to believe me just as I find it hard to believe someone got $7,000 off msrp in this market without seeing the paperwork.

 

To clarify, "I saved" $7000. It was my trade that made the difference. Wholesale $30,000, but the local dealer would only pay $25,000 as they told me there was zero used car market. Carvana is a local company, called them and had the $30,000 price.

So $5000 difference on price, trading in a $30,000 vehicle against a $40,000 meant only paying the sales tax on the difference. Saves about $2000 in sales tax. Hence a 1400 mile roundtrip drive to save that money.

The local dealer didn't have what I wanted but was pressuring me to pay a $5000 down payment and my trade to find one. Then it was, "oh, there is a $4000 acquisition fee". WTF? It was out of the twilight zone, horrible attitude. I bought my 2019 Highlander SE at that same dealer. Zero issues, but the whole atmosphere has changed. High pressure. Whatever it took to get me in the door ("I thought this was a six-foot bed"). Very high turnover, very aggressive. I walked out. Another was great but explained that OR and PRO's go for MSRP, but they had no six foot in the queue, and everyone is sold within a week of getting on their lot. No BS, no story, but pulled a quick search and said only two six-foot beds in Texas.

MSRP is what they are selling for, but all I can say is be reasonable, but firm on your trade-in value. It's just a crazy market. Still shocked they have a $1000 rebate and 1.9% financing.

 

Notice how the power play turned around once the premium package truck arrived at the dealership. The salesrat thought you were at his mercy in the ordering process. But once the truck got on the lot, not so much.

 

I didn't take any offense to it. Just an appreciating an update on the current market. Given how many times the dealership has tried to buy my truck back, I definitely believe you guys.

I will say that I put in some time to get my rig at the price I got. Had a vehicle allowance through work so I wasn't in a hurry to buy. Purposefully picked the month of February to buy, visited the dealership 4-5 times over the course of a month to haggle the price down with them.

Walked each time when they wouldn't hit my price, telling them I'd have to think about it and I'd probably come back at the end of the month to see if they had wiggle room then. I think they just gave me the truck so they wouldn't have to see me again haha.

In all fairness, the dealership was great to work with and I'll probably go back to them down the road. I'd highly recommend Royal Moore Toyota to anyone in the market for a truck in the PDX area. Gladstone Toyota on the other hand....
