for those of yall out there with diesels, im looking at getting a new one but dont know which one to go with. our last one clunked out at 368k 96 350 powerstroke. ive looked at all of them and like different things about each one but the main thing is the engine and how well its gonna hold up under load. Im still keeping my taco, just using this for hauling farm equipment. the other thing ive heard about the new diesels is since the new emissions they all have problems and durability issues. please fill me in if you know differently!

Ford is making changes for 2010. The new engine will be a little bigger, 6.7 liters if I remember correctly. I think they're also switching suppliers so you may want to look into them a little more before buying one.

I've heard good things about the GM diesel. My dad has a 08 6.6 and it's been great!

The first few years of the dmax they had alot of problems with injectors and pumps, but the new one seems to be very reliable. TONS of power, but I picked the Cummins, because of its long standing reputation. JMO.

some of this, a little of that
I thought I read that the new emissions have hurt the GM a little in power.

Yea as mentioned Ford has a brand new motor coming out for 2010. Sounds good from what I've heard but obviously that remains to be seen til it hits the road. I'd definitely go with the Duramax myself. Someone down where we have a place at the beach has a new Duramax Silverado ext. cab Z71. All black with a mild lift, bigger tires and black rims. Makes me drool everytime I see it.

I've heard that the dodge cummins engine is the best there is.

It's all in my head at the moment...
There is a reason they put in-line 6 cylinders in big trucks....Cummins is the only in-line 6 in your choices.

    In my sig
    In order:

    1. GMC Duramax- GMC's have the best ride IMO and can't beat allison's 6 speed
    2. Dodge Cummins-Cummins is bulletproof like someone said
    3. Ford Powerstroke- Priced better than other two.

if the cummins is making just as much or more power than the powerstroke and duramax with 6 cylinders rather than the other 2 with 8, cummins gotta be doing something right. id go with the cummins, but imo the duramax isnt far behing

The Duramax is still a 6.6l v8. Next year I believe they are changing the emissions on the truck, but the only change I'm aware of right now is the addition of urea injection like in the Mercedes Blue-Tec. I don't know if this starts in 2010 or 2011 models.

I forgot, they are also going to be using Piezo high pressure injectors on the next Duramax 6.6. The Duramax 4.5 that was supposed to go in half tons has been scrapped. Bad idea in my opinion. I was looking forward to checking that out.

My uncle has the Duramax with the Allison tranny and that things a beast!!! He just got a superchip put in it and went from a 3" exhaust to a 5". It'll get up to 100 in about 3 telephone poles (may not be the best measurement but around here that's the best guesstimate) He put new Kumho 305's on it and can smoke em if he stomps it goin about 30mph. Almost makes me wanna trade in my Tacoma... almost
