So would the Tundra be as reliable as as the Tacoma? It is sure way nicer inside, but seems like a princess of a truck a little, that wouldn't handle mud on the tires. As compared to the other two. Or is that just my ignorant perception?

Totally perception. My boss has a 2014 Tundra he bought specifically for towing a 24ft steel trailer with solid wood decking. He can tow 6 - 1,000 lbs hot tubs on it from city to city. It'll pull for sure. Though he did add a SuperCharger because...'Merica. LOL He didn't want to slow down while towing I guess.

Whether you do an F-150, Dodge, Tundra, or a Nissan Titan you'll still want to modify for adventuring if you want to go down any seriously 4x4 trails.

Bare in mind a Tundra isn't cheap. You certainly won't get one for the price of the F-150 that was offered to you. Or for the price of a Tacoma. Probably $40k or more to start looking at 4x4 models.

Yes Tundra is more expensive, but then for 2013 about 70km it is the same price for either Tacoma or Tundra, so if I was going to buy a 2 yr old truck, Tundra would seem a better deal

So I am thinking back to what was my original question, before I forgot what it was: is Tacoma V6 as reliable as Tacoma V4, and does the v6 come in manual

Trucks in general are just expensive. I saw a 2013 Tacoma TRD Off-Road 4x4 Double Cab Short Bed (DCSB) with 40k miles listed online by a Toyota dealer. They wanted $33k for it. My local Toyota dealer had the same 2015 (new) listed for $200 less. Resale value on Tacoma is almost ridiculous. LOL

We've had a bit of everything. GMC, Dodge, and Ford. The Fords quality just wasn't very good. Always had engine problems, pretty complicated to work on (one example my dad just told me, he said the GMC would have like four bolts holding in the fuel pump while the Ford would have like 6 and they were all different sizes!) So he'd get super frustrated working on things with it. Plus the resale is horrid.

Toyota's in my/our experience have been the easiest to work on in most cases. Just parts cost a bit more, but having to buy them occur less often.

I actually had a Ford leave me stranded the other day

Sounds like you're better off with a full size if towing horse trailers is on your list of to-do's. Tacomas are definitely known for their reliability and longevity but payload, towing and gas mileage are severely lacking, especially when compared to an ecoboost equipped f150. If you're on top of your maintenance, the ford SHOULD give you years of faithful service. That being said, we all love our tacos and would be happy to have you on board

Reliability both are fine. However, I would not get a 4 cylinder if you want to tow things.

You can get a V6 in manual on certain model Tacomas.

But if you want to tow a ski boat or horse trailer I wouldn't do a Tacoma. You'd want a full size truck.

Maybe you'd like to consider yourself a candidate for the 2016 taco? It should have the fuel economy thing going in its favour!

I'd never even consider a Titan, dying breed. They never broke 500 a month selling in Canada

And if you're going to consider a 2 year old truck, be sure to check the prices of new ones. Around here you can actually buy new cheaper than used in some cases. Plus you can get all the nice warranty perks. You'd have to go slightly older than that before the prices start to drop.

    And V6 all the way.

Yeah I had no interest in the Titan myself either.

I bought a brand new Tacoma for this very reason. The price difference between a 2yo Tacoma with 60k miles on it was so minor compared to brand new ones in my area it made no sense to buy used.

My head about exploded when I had a salesman try to explain why his used Tacoma on the lot cost more than a brand new one. "Well they already broke it in for you!"

@vetancik - Before we all get off topic. I'm going to say you should look at full size trucks. Because you want to be able to keep one truck for 10+ years and use it for pulling horses some day and a ski boat I really don't think a mid-size truck like the Tacoma is right for you. If you just wanted a reliable truck to adventure with I'd say the Tacoma is your best bet.

But a Tacoma is not built to haul horses and or ski boats. Plain and simple.

Ok, I think I got it: if I want to tow anything I should go F150, if I want reliability then I should go Tacoma. If I want to tow with reliability than I should go? Diesel?

Diesel is your most expensive option. Just so you know. If you want to tow HEAVY get a diesel.

Towing HEAVY like said, or towing extremely often, diesel. Otherwise it's not worth the extra price or maintenance.

Yes, you can get a v6 in a standard, but in Canada at least, that means you're stuck with a short box or an access cab. DCLB 4x4 V6 only comes with AT :(
