Here's the situation, I have a 2012 dcsb tacoma with about 55,000 miles on it. My brother recently told me he is going to sell his 2001 SVT cobra which has 94,000 miles on it. He just changed the tires and clutch, he's a relatively tame driver, I've seen the car a couple of times a year for the last 15 years and he has always taken care of it.

I don't really need a second car, but I've always been a mustang fan and used to have a 2013 5.0. He will sell me the car at a family price for $7k (most online are going for $10-12), but my questions is, for all you guys out there that have two vehicles, is it worth it to have the second car?

Appreciate any input and experiences. Thanks guys.

I've always owned multiple vehicles (a recovering truck/performance car addict) and there really isn't any negative to it. Just note the extra costs of insurance, maintenance, tires, etc. It's nice to have an extra vehicle if one of them is in the shop or whatever. That's a clean Mustang!

I always keep a extra car for me or any family/ good friends who need a set of wheels during a breakdown... as long as insurance and taxes aren't bad I say go for it

I say it's worth it, for a few years at least. Have fun with it, I'm pretty sure that's what the Cobra was made for :D

My Corvette is a toy, as the Mustang would be for you. I don't even know how long I will keep the Corvette, it's just something I always wanted, it's a ton of fun to drive, and now that bucket list item is checked. When the time comes to sell the car, it will be sold and I won't mind too much. Also I don't see the Corvette as a backup transportation since the Tacoma is as reliable as a hammer - the car is strictly for date night and/or sporty driving pleasure. I guess if someone needed to borrow the truck, the car would temporarily become my primary transportation.

You will get a multiple-car discount on the insurance. Or you should.

That's a good point, I'll have to see how much more my insurance will goes up.

I'm facing the same question op, I have a second car but it needs a motor to be rebuilt
But then I ask my self, should I a. Just put money into the taco and pay it off sooner and maybe mid it more
Or b. Put the money into the Subaru so I have a second mode of transportation and I don't put as many miles on the taco

Your choice. Think how many more Tacoma mods you can do for $7000. But I'd get the Mustang because it's a nice drift car.

I'd get the taco paid off first, but if you're not financially stressed or anything the Subaru could be a cool side project.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
I'd love to have a second one. Don't get me wrong. I love the truck and what it can do every day. But some times, I want to not have it be such a :turtleride:

I just recently sold my 2nd "play car"(a 3rd car/4th vehicle for my wife and I), a '98 Mercedes SL500, as I retired last April and came to find that even though I only drove it 3000 miles a year I did not want to keep up with the maintenance; what with me being anal about the condition of our fleet--if it's broke it gets fixed.

So my advice is think it through carefully before committing to buying it--no doubt it would be nice to have, but do you want the whole nine yards that goes with it?

When I was younger we had stables like that, however I now find it looks like I may outlive my money and wish I had some (quite a bit actually) of I what I spent on cars and bikes back...

Seriously though, having another car to drive is great. I'm always testing the Taco apart. It's good to have a second vehicle to drive just so I don't have to worry about getting it back together in time to go to work on Mon morning

As everyone else said. If you can afford it, get it. I picked up a 89 x-tra cab in October. Insurance went up a crazy $20 a month. That was a no brainer for me. However the Cobra, may be a bit more. But the piece of mind that you can leave the taco inop for a few days does feel good.
