Does anyone know when the TRD Cold Air Intake will be available for the 2013 Tacoma?
    Thanks in advance!

Do I gain anything w/ getting the 17" tires / wheels on the TRD Sport vs. the 16" tires / wheels on the SR5? Aside from being larger, of course?

That is what I have (SR5) and I live in NJ and my truck works perfect here. Even though I do not have the traction control of the newer Tacoma's.

    Edit:

I am at 85k on my truck with minimal problems. First thing u need to do is trim the front mud flaps those things are crazy long.

Interesting. Maybe I can buy the Bilstein 4600s ahead of time and have my dealer install them as a condition of the sale in December?

If you are going to buy Bilstein's and have them installed, you might as well go with the 5100's for about the same cost.

With 17" wheels, you'll get better car-like handling on pavement. But like the other poster said, they haven't updated that wheel design in years and it is kind of dated. My wife's '06 4Runner has the same wheels.

I *think* the SR5's have the updated rear leaf pack just like the Sport, and probably the same front springs.

I agree with the other folks, SR5 sounds like the right choice for you. Honestly you probably won't notice a difference on the shocks for road use, so I would just run the black Tokicos until they wear out and upgrade them then. They are better than they used to be.

I would definitely get the 5100s ahead of time and get them installed if you can get them to do it for cheap

Do the 5100s require any special work besides a straight swap? If I choose to do this, I'll have a easier time selling this if its just a simple swap w/ no modification required.

Also it looks like you need the height adjustable 5100s for the front and the regular 5100s for the rear. Am I reading that right?

They are just a straight swap, no modifications needed. The fronts are "adjustable" by allowing progressive levels of spring preload (which would also stiffen the ride), so you can choose to raise the front a little if you want or just leave it stock height. They seem to be a little more heavy-duty than the 4600's, but that doesn't necessarily mean stiffer -- bigger for better cooling, but probably similar valving. Down South Motorsports has a great deal on them.

    S1njin, TenBeers,

A more correct explanation of differences the 4600s and the 5100s would be that the 5100s are adjustable for the front and longer for the rears. Both are 46 mm The 5100s are for lifting / lifted a truck to allow larger tires.

If you think you might lift the truck, go with 5100s. If left stock height, go with 4600s.

Not true -- I put them on my previous '09 that was not lifted. I set the fronts at 0.85" to level out the truck, but that's not really a lift, just a tiny boost. You CAN get longer rears for a lifted truck, but you can also get stock length. Down South Motorsports offers different combos.

Zombie, do you know where I can find the specs on the valving. It sure isn't on Bilsteins site? It seems to be an illusive number that no one can actually find.

Both are great shocks, much better than stock or the pretender Toyota / Bilsteins that are on the TRD packages. So he cannot go too wrong with either shock.

I found unverifiable iinformation on another forum that internally the 4600 and 5100 are the same design but with slightly different valving. 5100's are beefier than the stock Bilsteins, for sure.

The explanation I saw indicated that the front 5100's have softer dampening in both directions (looser), rears harder going up but softer going down. This is compared to the 4600 and applied to a GM truck, so may not be the same as what applies to our trucks.

Either way, they are supposedly a better shock, I liked them, and the cost is similar, so why not?

I would go with trd off-road, comes with diff-lock. you may need it for some of your coastal snow storms. the trd also comes with better seats and a few others.

From what I have read is that bilstein will not release the valving info on the 5100's

Add the tow package to which ever one you get... I was toying around with a SB vs LB, but ended up with the LB and i'm glad I did especially since our needs for a truck are nearly identical

To be honest with you, I'm not a fan AT ALL of that scoop on the TRDs. Just my 2 cents, but I'm going to have to look at it for the next 5-8 years.

So, if upgrading the the TRD gets me bigger tires/wheels, shocks that are pretenders anyway, better seats, and some other odds and ends it sounds like I'm getting a SR5.

Is the leaf pack the same in all flavors?

SR5 plus some Billy 4600s as a make me feel better upgrade sounds like a done deal to me. The 2013s aren't up on any of the aftermarket 'choose your vehicle' configurator tools. I'm assuming the shocks they recommend for the 2012 will fit the 2013s?
