Hello guys, recently i've been thinking about making myself with a 06 manual Tacoma V6. I've done some research and Tacomas seem to be reliable and strong vehicles. I was wondering if someone could help me based on their own experience in terms of reliability and spare parts, any recommendations are welcome.
    Thanks!

early model years such as 05 06 are said to have bad head gaskets and weaker frame area by the motor mount that holes can punch through

the beginning year of any vehicle has bugs.

Reccomend looking for 08-11 and 14-15 model years if you want a 2nd gen. Thoroughly inspect the frame.

I won't argue that a little newer truck isn't a bad option if you can find one in your price range. But I can't imagine a better truck than my 07 DC 4X4 TRD has been. I'm at 243,000 miles with minimal repairs. Other than normal stuff like brakes, tires, batteries etc., the only part I've replaced was the alternator at about 170,000 miles. I fully expect at least 300,000 out of it before anything major breaks.

Where you at in the country? Rust belt Tacos need extra looks (and maybe hammer taps) before buying used.

I would just find one that's been well maintained, regardless of year. IMO, the savings of buying earlier year models that can save you a few grand to throw in a high yield savings acct for repairs that may not happen outweighs going newer. My 05 has been flawless but if I had to buy a used Tacoma right now, I would likely buy the 2012-'15 just because they have the best looking front end IMO.

Do your research. The blanket statement regarding the '06 issues seems to fill many uninformed TW heads.

It just leaves more '06 models for the informed to scoop up.
