Here in CA dealers were and are still adding 5-10k over MSRP, sorry but a Tacoma Pro or whatever isn’t worth 60-65k

Here in NY it’s anywhere from 3k to 10k over. Just trying to force add on accessories and get more for my trade I guess to level it out.

The forcing you to buy junk add ons or else is why dealers will soon be obsolete and the CarMax, Carvana way will be the new norm

I mean that I’m trying to force the add ons that I’d need/want like running boards, center console safe, tonneau cover, bed lights etc

Not all of NY, it’s like that in the 5 boroughs.

Look in upstate NY, PA, maybe even NJ.

Drive to dealer, make deal in person.

If you want that stuff that’s fine but a lot of that is port installed options and you can’t pick and choose. I think your best bet is to do this in person

Headed to a local dealer near me Tuesday morning. Spoke on the phone, started from $5k over to $3k over. Now he’s saying he’ll throw in whatever extras he can. Going to see how this plays out. If not, I’ll walk. It’s been a while since I bought a truck but it used to be how far below MSRP can I push them not how close back down to MSRP. Insane .

Stand your ground. Don’t let them fool you into thinking over MSRP is a deal because they knocked money off their arbitrary inflation.

Before you buy the truck online, make sure its 100% available and there on the lot or incoming. I could see dealers doing this to lock customers in via hitting their credit, deposit and then doing the switch on a nicely equipped offroad model.

This would be LOCA bro, hes in Long Island NY, 3k miles away. He will be paying a small mark up just traveling and driving back not to mention long highway runs on a new motor probably not the best idea.

Ticket $300, 150 gallons of guel roughly $525, 3k miles of wear in 3 days plus hotels and food $400

This guy hit the nail on the head, head to the more depressed areas of the state or PA where people are looking for larger trucks.

You realize you’re wanting to buy one of the most “desirable” trims in the last year generation for this vehicle right before the next gen will hit dealer lots right? Haha. Everyone’s trying to do exactly what you’re doing. Just saying man, you’ll get way more for your money getting a base off-road and adding stuff to it and still come out cheaper than the pro.

I have been in the market for a new Tacoma since 2019. Bought brand new in May 2023. I patiently waited for life hurdles and market hurdles and got my OR with no dealer mark up. I don’t like digital bells and whistles. Only thing dealer had on it is the door sills and TRD carpet or whatever but I was willing to pay $250 to get the truck OTD right over $44k.

I shopped Honda and Chevy trucks as well. I looked at videos, read articles, compared specs, checked dealers, options, trims, and compared all that to what I wanted from my truck. I wanted the best all around mid size truck that I can garage. It would be able to do everything well but may not specialize in any one thing.

At the end of the day it’s your truck and you’ll pay for it and own it. No one else. Do what’s good for you and what makes you happy.

I decided against the pro. I’m going with the off road and I’ll do what I want to it later. One truck from one dealer is offering MSRP, but 24k on the trade. The other is offering $500 over but $26k. The truck that’s $500 over is the same specs but with a tonneau cover added.

Functionally the Pro offers little over the Off Road, for about $5,000 more. Folks claiming its $10k are not comparing similar vehicles and regardless on if you "need" leather and a sunroof you have to compare like to like.

The Pro is a nice truck and I was looking for one when I bought mine, and frankly, would like to have one. That said I bought a base OR with only the Advanced Tech option, putting me about $8k under a Pro. The "leather" seats would be nice for ease of cleaning as the cloth gets dirty quickly, but saving the $5k to get leather, or the $8k to get a Pro (which includes leather) seems worth it for me (and 2 yrs later I still feel that way). The lift and shocks can be done for less than $1k if you want and IMO the Bilstein 6112's are preferable to the Fox shocks (a matter of opinion). Paint the wheels black and you are dang close to a Pro.

Just make sure you get the LED headlights. The 360 camera helps park perfectly between the lines, and it seems like that is about it (while also making the actual backup camera view worse).

I bought my Pro from an out of state dealership online/over the phone for MSRP + $400 for shipping. But that was in the Before Times (late 2019).

In my experience, while people love to say "buy a TRD OR and use the saved money to upgrade" aren't paying the outright cash price but are taking out a loan, as nearly everyone does. So it's not like you're going to have 5-10k laying around ready to immediately upgrade suspension and so forth. I've been running my stock Pro suspension for nearly 4 years and over 55k miles, majority of that with 33" MTs. I am only just now considering upgrading my suspension because of all the overland stuff I bolted on *over the years* is weighting it down. But YMMV

I paid MSRP a few weeks ago in Upstate NY. It took a few weeks of searching but eventually found exactly what I was looking for. In the same zip code they wanted 20k over for a Ranger Raptor at a Ford dealership so you never know.

    Good luck with the search!

To be quite honest, I wanted the PRO more for the looks. I’ve only been serious off roading with rental vehicles in Hawaii and in Aruba but would I take my truck if I had the chance? Certainly . I really only go very light off roading when I go upstate hunting. Would I upgrade my suspension in the future? Absolutely. I think I’d rather start with the wheels and the grille and play around with features from there. The price difference was $8k considering they wanted that much over MSRP (lowest I could find nearby). I’ll be getting what I need most off the bat which is a tonneau cover, running boards, and LED bed lighting as additional options on top of what it’s equipped with so I’m happy.

Oops, didn’t realize it says “hostage.” What I typed was Upstate hunting. Don’t mind the auto correct

There's a far difference in "hostage" vs. "upstate"...

I think your phone ratted you out... o_O
