    Hi all,

New to TacomaWorld looking to buy my first Tacoma or 4R soon. Spotted this one listed for sale at a nearby dealership. Wondering what you all think. My knowledge is limited. Carfax and general info looks promising -- price (imo) doesn't look too terrible -- though I would push lower.

    2006 Tacoma 4x4

I'd like to customize over time for offroading and trails.

Main questions I'm eager to have answered:

-How does the price look/what do you think its worth?
-Anything suspicious about the posting that a newbie to Tacomas may not notice?
-Do I have any reason to believe that this wouldn't be reliable as an everyday commute car into DC?
-Is this a good buy if I plan to customize and push off road?
-Is this a good buy or should I look somewhere other than dealerships? I will be keeping my eyes peeled on the for sale forums here too.

    Any advice is much appreciated!

    J

Nothing wrong with an 06, I'm still going strong. You won't be disappointed with any Tacoma. But yeah, as long as the frame as good you're good. It has decent miles, it's a sport, and you have a long bed. Man that's a great deal for $15k

If off roading and trails are a priority consider the 4runner or a shorter tacoma (either access cab or double cab with 5 foot box) for better ground clearance over humps and through ditches. I have a double cab long bed for the capacity but it is less capable on trails due to shelling wheel base. Lifts, of course, can make up for this but that same lift on a shorter wheel base will give you even better clearance.

If the frame is rusted it would still qualify for a new frame even buying it used now, no?

Long bed is better because when you get stuck in the ditch other trucks can use you like a bridge....

I went Double Cab since I needed a place for kids to sit. And I went SR5 Long Box instead of TRD Short Box because I want to use the bed for hauling objects, camping, etc. But I don't plan on doing anything serious offroad wise. But it's pretty easy to recognize the long box extends the wheel base and would therefore reduce the potential for serious rock climbing.

Which is why the Jeep Wrangler is so dang popular with off roaders I guess eh?

Is This a reasonable 4runner consideration based on my description above? Carfax IS available even though the dealership looks a little sketchy.
