I would like to make a large purchase from someone across the country that is selling a kit that I've been interested in for a while. The purchase exceeds $5k....has anyone made a purchase of this magnitude using paypal....should I be worried about it being a scam...how do I make sure the things I purchase are actually sent....i have so many question.

Any and all help would he highly appreciated as I would like to make sure it goes as smoothly as possible if i do decide to go this route and make the buy

If it's PayPal, you are covered. For a while too after the purchase. IIRC . Email or call them and find out

    Yes you should be worried

Never use PayPal GIFT unless you know this person or trust them. If you use regular PayPal then you can get your money back if it’s a scam.

That's what I have heard but wanted to make sure. So I take the 3% or whatever it is charge to make sure that I get my money back if scammed correct?

    Correct

Otherwise you have no basis to stand on and would lose everything

Yeah I would highly appreciate that if someone could. If he agrees to the buy it would make me feel much more comfortable knowing someone checked it out for me and relayed back what they thought especially when it's that much money. The guy lives in NJ.
