Hi all, I am in the process of purchasing my first ever Tacoma. I am very excited and would like some input from people who have been there done that with them. I am going to look at a 2001 Tacoma 4x4 TRO 3.4L 5-speed manual. The thing I am not sure on is the mileage. It is high at 200,000. If this were anything else I would have dismissed it and moved on, but being a Toyota, I know they can go forever, I just don't know how "forever" they can go. Do you think this is too many miles or would you guys say go ahead? I am not sure on maintenance as the owner has had it 8 months and changed the oil only and not sure what the dealership did with it prior. I think I can get it for $7500-8000. What things should be a red flag for me and do I need to watch out for? How many miles could I expect to get out of this truck assuming it is well maintained before having to rebuild something major? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

200,000 is just broken in. Keep the oil changed and stay on top of all your maintenance and it'll last another 200,000. The 2001 has a timing chain, not a belt, so I don't think that should be a worry. Make sure it shifts smoothly, with no knocks/grinds. I have a 2001 and only paid $5500 for it with 90,000 miles but it's not a 4WD or a 3.4L, so I'd say you're getting a fair deal...you might can knock him down a little.

    Welcome!
See if you can get the price down a little bit due to the miles.
Also, the 3.4 has a time belt, so you might want to have the condition checked since it can be a fairly expensive deal to replace.
Other than that, I hope it works out for you. Enjoy!
