If you are building this out then the SR5 seems like a good option. The speakers and head unit can all be upgraded as well. Push to Start is nice, but wouldn’t be the end of the world for me. Power plug in the bed is cool, but I’ve never needed mine in the short time I’ve owned my truck. A plug in the cab was always more useful in all of my other vehicles.

I'm sure everyone has already answered the question but the main difference is the hood scoop. TRD Sport does have push-to-start unless you get the manual trans. Sport also has leather, LED headlights/foglight options and color keyed trim from the factory. TRD Sport suspension is nothing special but its not great either so get rid of it as quickly as you can. I bought my sport because of the hood scoop and now I hate the scoop because it blocks some visibility and the glare from the sun is indescribable.

MESO has the mirror pod lights, if l am not mistaken when you hit the unlock button on the key they will turn on.

I know it's not what you want but I would look at the 4 wheel Dr, it would have a greater resale value up north of you. Given you location the 2 wheel option would work however I've used 4 hi in situations I never thought I would. Pulling a boat and trailer out of a moss covered ramp the incline had me sliding back.

Ok lots of good feedback here, so I went to Toyota website and "built" both trim lines to my liking with as close to being identical equipped to give a fair price comparison. I will tell ya'll that many of the items listed above that are thought to be standard equipment on the Sport are actually options, albeit Toyota adds them to 99% of the trucks that are on the dealers lots, and also because certain colors automatically adds these items.

So to list a few of these (the ones that are important to me)

To get the LED front lights and the wide angle fogs for the Sport, you have to get the Technology package that adds $1285.00, again to get certain colors its automatically added, which works for me since I want Cement anyway. So just to compare to the SR5 the Technology package is only $570.00...no LED lights are available so with it you only get Blind Spot Monitor, Cross Traffic Alert (which I hate both) but it does add the color keyed rear bumper which is good. BTW this package is not required to get certain colors like on the Sport.

Both come standard with the JBL stereo and 8" Nav... there are several upgrades available for more $ in the Sport including the Premium JBL etc. The several different stereo upgrades can really shoot the price up by thousands on the Sport. The Sport comes standard with something called a Connect Package, that's unimportant to me but it comes with the push button start and wireless phone charging, both I want.

Here's a few other things that are indeed standard on the Sport. The grille is a different color and different configuration, I like the Sport grille slightly better but I will prob upgrade to the TRD Pro grille anyway. Both bumpers and the door handles are completely color keyed, I like that. It has the hood scoop which I want and was willing to buy and install on the SR5 myself, so I looked up the cost from the dealer, all in the list is $786.24, my cost is $525.33 plus paint and install. The Sport has the turn signals in the mirror, leather trimmed shiftier handle and the fog lights are wide angle, all nice but could live without. The sunroof is an option...a very expensive option which I do not want anyway even it it was no charge.

The cargo bed light ($179.00) and the bed connectivity kit ($59.00) are actually both options on the SR5 and the Sport, I want both options.

So with all this being said, I build to order each truck with appx the same optional equipment that I want and the list prices are as follows

    The SR5 $34,883.00
    The TRD Sport $37,683.00

A $2,800.00 is a real world price difference between the two that are optioned equally...so for me considering the Sports features listed above I think it would be the better choice. Let me add, that finding one produced by Toyota like the way I built it out without a bunch of BS would be impossible because they automatically add many options on the Sport to send to the Toyota dealerships. Also if you visit a Toyota dealer you will see that their inventory is depleted anyway due to the plandemic, so finding anything close to what I want is not going to be available plus with the low inventory they want full MSRP... I had planned to special order from the Fleet Department anyway to get what I want and also I can purchase at a much lower price. For those interested in the 4WD option added $3075.00 to either trim lines.

So there ya have it...hopefully this will help someone else who really wants to compare apples to apples between these two trim lines.

I don't even bother to use the state owned boat ramp on my like or the privately owned marina one. I have lake front property that has a grassy bank on the other side of a dirt road that drops down to the lake itself where i live. 4wd to launch the boat, and pull it out is mandatory if you don't want your vehicle ending up in the lake. I always attract a crowd of walkers, and gawkers when launching or pulling the boat out.

I see you’re in Texas so might as well mention this. The base model Sports in the Texas region already come with the backup sensors and new LED headlights while a fully loaded SR5 does not. I vote for Sport. Most of the Sports I see in stock all across Texas are 2WD so you might not even have to order if you’re in a hurry to receive your vehicle.

Same as mine with black wheels on the sr5. They still haven't grown on me.

Very good points, I'm not real concerned about resale as Ill prob keep the truck a long time and in regards to towing I always pull my boat behind my H2

Great write up, should be posted in "What did you pay for your tacoma?" sticky.

On another note, I hope my Cement Sport on order just happens to show up with LED headlights lol

Thank you Sir, Ill copy and paste it in that thread. If ya got the Cement it will, I think the only colors that could possibly come with the HID are white and the metallic black. I would
have to go back and confirm that tho.
