Haha this sounds more my style but is it legal? Am I not stuck into monthly payments when I sign the deal?

Financing it to build your credit isn't a bad thing. If anything, like others have mentioned, finance a certain amount, make a lower down payment. When you get the first bill, drop enough to pay off the majority of your truck. Save like $1200 left and pay the $100 a month for a year. Credit gets a huge boost, truck still paid off, and the pay off is still low enough that if shit hits the fan, you can quickly pay it off and call it a day.

Eff that. You should be able to get at least a couple thousand off.

Never tell them you are working with cash till the end they make huge amounts on dealer financing. Get the price as low as possible let them think you are going to finance with them get the best price and then lay the cash on them get the price in writing out the door price, none of this oh you have to pay this fee for delivery, to this providence (state) for Americans. If this advice was already offered please disregard.

I agree with the tip part of this. I got my 2010 TRD DC Off Road for 27200 Out the door. I later became aquatinted with the salesmen and asked him why they did not take my offer of 27000 but came back with 27200 and he said they did accept my offer but he wasn't going to make a dime so he told me they could only do 27200 so he would make 200 in commission.

Manufacturer approved dealerships will never negotiate on a brand new vehicle unless it is a "leftover" from a previous year, regardless of how you're paying. Most dealers don't care about cash because as mentioned above, they make more money on loan interest. Also a lot of dealers will finance because they know there is a good chance the car will get repo'd. Then they can sell it all over again to some other knuckle head who can't afford it. Another reason dealerships don't care about cash is because they have to pay taxes on their income anyway. Cash is usually only useful in a for sale "by owner" situation or at a used car dealer because they can fudge and get away without paying as much taxes.

If you are really attached to getting a brand new truck, consider getting a leftover from 2012... The dealer will be much more willing to negotiate, but remember the truck will lose about $5k in value the second you sign the papers. If I were you I'd look for a used Tacoma that has less than 20k miles (30k kilometers) that is clean and close to what you want. I think you'll find people will be much more willing to negotiate possibly saving you up to 10 grand.

when i sold toyotas they preferred credit because it made more money... they would actually prefer someone with not-so-good credit because of a higher apr, thus so they can sell the loan for more

Ya I hear ya. Ill look around for 2012 at the dealers. A used tacoma in these parts are pretty much the same price as new but thats not considering peoples lust for cold hard cash.

Hey man, I live in BC and in 2009 I was dead set on buying a new trd sport double cab. After spending a few evenings at the dealerships talking about it I started to get that raped in the ass feeling from the salesman. First they wouldnt budge an inch on anything and outright told me I wouldn't find a better truck for a better price anywhere. Fuck that, I started searchin private sales, ended up buyin one 2 years old, full ome lift, with 60000kms for 25 grand. Don't buy new from the dealer, its not a good deal, take your time and shop around, you will save yourself a ton of money.Or if you are dead set on new, Go to the states, I have a friend who bought a tundra from a dealer in oregon, saved a ton of money and it wasnt a big hassle, he set most of it up over the phone before hand.

You are better to Finance it and then pay it off with the first payment because the dealers will be banking on making money off of the interest, so they might give you a better deal. If sticker was $37,500 how did they get to $40,000? You shouldn't be more than $38,500 if they moved on the price with tax and all.

Interesting my 2010 was a left over I bought it in 2011. But I have to disagree with you. I have negotiated for brand new year cars from brand named dealers they have hold backs and tons of other incentives. Everything is negotiable in the car world read this it is about a guy who went undercover in the car sales world but was a reported for Edmunds.com http://www.edmunds.com/car-buying/confessions-of-a-car-salesman.html

Get prices from as many as you can and play them all against each other. I got three "best prices" and by going back and forth, ended up paying $900 less than the lowest "best price"

Double dipping on the post. Seriously read this article it makes things clear. They do some shadey shit. Do your research knowledge is power and be strong avoid the tricks and all the BS bravado they hit you with. Do not get worn down and most important walk away its your money you hold the power but a good salesmen will try to reverse the roll so you think he has the power. Never lose your ability to walk away with the money you have earned. And now I am stepping down off my soap box!!! Not for too long though!!!

I'd offer $35000. If they say no, tell them you're gonna keep looking at other trucks and dealers. Then ACTUALLY leave the dealership. Be nice, but be firm and don't be all," but this is the truck I REALLY want".

Purchased my 2012 cash through a dealers internet sales had to drive about an hour and a half to pick it up but I got it for $2,200 below MSRP with no hassle at all. I got similar prices from other dealers using their internet sales as well.
