This is my personal opinion so please dont take this the wrong way.

I would never pay the prices they want for Tacoma's in Canada period, and that is not because I cant afford it. I could drop down "cash" on any vehicle I want.

I chose a Tacoma and I chose used. Paid 29,000 (including tax). For my beauty in mid 2009. Full load with leather. Have only had minor issues with it.

I kind of feel bad when I see some guy drive around a $45,000-$47,000 tacoma (price with tax). Granted they hold their value but that does not change the fact the dealership just raped your wallet.

    ^^^ Like your thinking^^^
I posted before about pricing a new Tacoma, and paying for it. When I say cash, I would take a cashiers check.
    $284.00 off! HA!
    OK! Now they made NOTHING!!!

Absolutely not true. You can get a 4 door TRD OffRoad but it only comes in short bed if that makes a difference to you.

Not in Canada. TRD Off Road is only available in Access Cab V-6 (6M or 5A). TRD Sport is only available in Double Cab V-6. Furthermore, all DC TRD-S short boxes are 6M and all DC TRD-S long boxes are 5A.

    No regular cab in Canada.
    No TRD-S AC in Canada.
    No TRD-OR DC in Canada.
No TRD-S DC short box A5 in Canada.

But hey, we've had optional heated leather seats since 2007...

Do not accept the etching it's only on the glass, it is not required by any law or insurance co. It's a damn good way to make a $395 profit. So one else said finance it and pay it off check first about an early pay off there maybe a penalty.

Lol so the one I test drove was a long box. I didn't even notice. I love Canada but when it comes to vehicles we get severely shafted.

I don't have it because they kept it. When my parents bought their new Highlander, they had to sign the same thing. :notsure:

My Finance guy said that they didn't really have any way to enforce it, but they still have people sign it...

Is leather not an option in the US?????

The reason I ask is because I have a TRD-S DC short box A5 with leather (heated).

    That's a smart move.

Personally, if I had $40,000 in cash. I'd finance it for a year to build credit, then pay it off.

If you haven't got your truck yet and are willing to come to the states (san diego, california). I can get you in touch with a friend who is the internet manager/fleet sales manager, maybe he can help you out. just PM me. good luck though!

well i suggest googling 'tacomaworld importing to canada' for starters to see what you are getting into, very do-able but there are things that must be done prior to registering in canada.. if i were to purchase another tacoma myself i would go this route to get another reg cab instead of having a dealership here find a used one to rape me price-wise on. i paid the same for 2yrs old used with 23000 miles as a new one goes for in the states. lesson learned.

I don't think leather has ever been a factory option on Tacomas in the US but I could be wrong. Hopefully, a neighbour from the South will chime in.

I have a printout of the 2008 Tacoma 4x4 features and specifications for Canada and it only lists DC V6 6M with a 208.1 in. length (short box) and DC V6 5A with a 221.3 in. length (reg box.) Then again, heated leather seats aren't listed so I know it's not entirely acurate. I just bought my 2007 from a Toyota dealer and they printed off the 07 order guide for me - which contains no mention of leather seats either.

I don't mean to highjack this thread but despite the extreme sticky overload on the 2nd Gen page, there isn't a post that details the various configurations and options available for each model year in the US and Canada. (At least not that I have found.) Someone should really put one together, it would be very valuable to people shopping the used market.

    I agree 100% with this.

If you are ok with a slightly used, that could save you some cash too. A lot of times newer Tacomas are priced very high, but there a deals to be had if you are patient. I bought my '07 in '09 for $27.5k which came to about $29k OTD. Certified truck with extended warranty. Truck had 47k kms on the odo. I also bought it the last day of the month which helped and got a $500 discount for being a college graduate. MSRP then was around $38k similar to the one you are interested in. I did not know what I was doing negotiating at the time, so I'm sure I could have gotten a better deal still. Truck was stickered for $30k.

I don't have personal experience with this, but I would try to find out an invoice price for the particular truck and options and then start emailing dealers for best price OTD and let them fight it out.

This site gives you invoice price of a vehicle. Site is for free, so don't know how accurate it is, but it is a start. Here: http://www.carsaver.ca/

I may do something like that once I need a truck, but I usually buy slightly used and I'm also very interested in importing from US. There a a few threads on that on TW too. Like this here:
