    Hello Tacoma owners,
I don’t currently own a Tacoma but I’m purchasing new within the next few months. I’m looking at the sport upgrade model. Won’t be using it for off-roading. I have an old beetle that I’d occasionally like to trailer to car shows. With trailer that should come in around 4k pounds. It’s a beetle so it’s pretty aerodynamic (round). That’s not the primary purpose of the truck but it could be doing it a couple of times a year.

I don’t want another full size truck. Just too much metal to drive around if I’m not using it for a task. This would be my 5th yota, 4th new.

How do you think that combination would drive?

If you were in my situation would you grab the best price on a 2019 or hold for the 2020? No big urgency.

    Thanks

That combo should drive just fine. I'd wait for the 2020.

Some locations near me still have new 2018s on the lot that they are really trying to get rid of. Might be worth it if you can find a dealership offering a killer deal to get rid any left overs.

If power seats and Apple CarPlay are of any value to you, then wait for the 2020. Otherwise, I would save the money and settle with a 2019.

I bought my 2018 new last year when the dealership offered a lifetime warranty on anything the oil touches. So I will drive it till the wheels fall off!

I would make a list of must haves and can live withouts. If you plan to keep the truck for several years you might regret not having that certain feature on the 2020 because you saved X amount of dollars by purchasing the 19. Since urgency is not an issue, I would do your homework and an extended test drive. Take your time to find the spec'd Tacoma you want, its out there. Best of luck!

If you can stand the lower stance and wheels go for it. Otherwise get an OR for the better suspension.

Tacomas don't really tow that well, especially since the torque and power band are higher in the rpm range on the 3rd gen.

With S mode and ect on I guess it's tolerable.

Otherwise the tacomas are reliable and beautiful trucks. Really shine off road though.

Did you look at the baby duramax diesel in the Colorado? Tows really well for a small truck.

You should test drive one, take it home for 24 hours, hook up the trailer and tow it a bit. See if it works for you.

And a Duramax 0-60 time of almost 10 seconds, passing times described as barely acceptable by auto magazines.
    Thanks but no thanks.

I drag my 3700lbs boat and trailer from PA to RI every summer about 306 miles...tows just fine at 65-75mph.

I really want the Toyota because I keep my vehicles long term and they seem to not cost as much as others. I’ve got a buddy who is a master mechanic and he told me to stay away from the Colorado/Canyon. He said don’t even consider anything other than a Tacoma if you’re planning on having it for 10 years.

Might want to consider a full-size truck pal.

I’ve had 2. Not interested in another. So I take it from your post that you’re saying that the Tacoma isn’t a good choice because I’m intending on pulling a 4K trailer a couple of times a year ?

I think some people are just generally uncomfortable towing and therefore think you need an f350 to tow anything just because they dont want to feel it back there...

you will have no trouble whatsoever towing your trailer. It's not like it's a travel trailer that will get pushed around by the wind.

    this and that...
sport equipped with tow package would suit you just fine. i think the sports have a bigger sway bar too which would be a benefit for towing as well.

I had an F150 with the 4.6 which was fairly underpowered for a truck that heavy and I used to pull 5500 pound 5th wheel with a massive square front to it. I think it’s limit was 6000. Towed it 3000 miles to Florida one winter. It worked hard but got it done, so I understand what you mean.

But it’s main purpose will be as a daily driver.

    Can you explain “better suspension”?
