How's that? You are still going to have to go there and wait in line (with appointment of course) and get a vin check then go wait in line again (appointment line again) and then wait for your number to be called so you can pay your fees and any extra taxes own.

    The CA DMV always wins.

For reference, registration cost on mine was $550. I payed no additional sales tax at the DMV since I payed an equivalent amount in AZ (8% for my county).

Do you have a residence out of state? That would be a great way to give them the shaft and not pay taxes

I live in Colorado, and ended up flying to Salt Lake City to buy. I was looking for something specific (7513, above), and no one in CO had it, or had one coming. Not feeling inclined to wait 3ish months for an order, I started looking at the surrounding states and my girlfriend actually ended up finding the one in SLC. Turns out someone had special ordered it, then changed their mind on the color late in the process. I just happened to contact the dealership right as someone else released a reservation on it. Thanks to stupid cheap Frontier tickets I was able to fly out Memorial Day Weekend and drive it back (first 500 miles in the first 12 hours of ownership).
EDIT - The dealerdid end up taking the tax money for where I live in CO, and the county will get it from them (apparently, we'll see how that works out in practice).

Ehh, would rather have had red, but was just that tired of my old car that I didn't want to order, that truck was the only one available either in CO or the surrounding states. Bucket in the front. And yeah, for being steelies I'm quite happy with the wheels.

I have bought two 2 - 2016 Tacomas in Socal and paid below MSRP on both.

1 at Claremont Toyota which I already sold, and My latest one in Quicksand at Redlands Toyota under msrp as well.

I do work for Claremont and they would only do $500 under msrp and the fleet manager was acting like he was doing me a huge favor.

I did very much like the OP. Found the truck I wanted and drove from Fresno to Las Vegas to get it.

The dealer was able to tell me what the NV taxes would be vs the CA tax. Oddly CA was a few dollars cheaper.

So title in hand, I made an appointment for the DMV. Transferred my old tag (vanity plate) paid the tax and title in my name mailed to me the next week.

I bought my 2012 from Claremont. They gave me a good deal on that one. I think the market for 2016s is just too hot. I can't blame them for not discounting if there are suckers willing to pay full pop

My salesperson just called me and said that 6 people have reached out to her and have bought a truck from this forum. It's good to see that others are finding luck in Oregon. If anyone wants the dealers info pm me.

Bought my last three vehicles in other states. You can save lots of money doing it that way. Take your time and play the internet-dealer-search game. I have my vehicles registered to my LLC also, saving all kinds of money.

If I had thought of setting up an llc in Oregon it would have saved me some money. The taxes and registration in California are ludicrous

OP, so even after all the CA fees and Taxes, flying to Oregon, it was cheaper by a few thousand?
