Right. The fees were the same other than a smog and weighing the truck. The flight and gas only ran me about $200 total. I found a cheap flight in the middle of the week. I told my salesperson Friday that I was just waiting for something to come up and turn it into a sour experience. I would do the same thing over again in a heartbeat.

Good deal. If dealers locally would have been willing to deal I would have done the same thing.

Ive Bought several rigs from different states over the years. But buying the new Tacoma Pro has proven to have challenges in getting one of the first production runs.

I doubt you're going to find a pro for under msrp. Most will probably be marked up.

I too flew out of state to get what I wanted. This was my first time, and I would do it again. And I had never been to Boise before.

I just went through this process for the first time and I was reluctant to buy out of state at first. I live in SoCal but also a resident of Texas. I did not know that when you buy in california you pay their sales tax unless it is shipped out of the state. Now maybe I was upset because of that or maybe I was being stubborn or that I'm not a fan of california laws but I had the opportunity to buy at invoice price and declined. One, no dealer in in califonia had an TRD OF DCSB M/T in Inferno and two, I did not want to pay their sales tax and registration only to turn around and pay more to register it in my home state. So I found exactly what I was looking for in CO this past Thursday. Bought a plane ticket and fly out friday and drove back that day making it to california saturday morning. The dealership wasted no time getting the paperwork done and had the truck ready for me so I was out of there in just over an hour. Even though I paid MSRP I still saved money by paying Texas sales tax instead.

I have been hesitant to try buying out of state. Not so much for the trip expense as I can think of it as mini vacation, but getting there and having a dealer pull a low blow by not having the vehicle promised in the condition it was promised.

They don’t call them stealership for no reason. lmaoo!

Glad it’s working out for you guys and may try it on my next go-round.

    Cheers!

I'm in Maine and I may buy down in Mass for my next vehicle. They move so many more vehicles down there and as a result are much more competitive with pricing. A buddy just bought a new Tundra and got it for $5000 less than he could negotiate here in Maine.

Not to say there are deals to be had in Maine...but generally speaking the above is true.

When you deal with smaller dealerships they seem to treat you better. They get most of their business from referrals and return customers. I know I was waiting for something to go wrong buying far from home. Sure they could have tried to pull a fast one but they were honorable and the process was seamless.

Congrats. I tried buying in az as it was about 7 hours closer but none of the dealers could get the truck I wanted in allocation.

My last two new vehicles have been purchased in Ohio when I live in Michigan.

In 2013 I tried to buy my WRX, all the MI dealers did not want to play ball or asked too much, so I fould what I wanted and drove to OH to get it. The OH dealer charged MI sales tax and did all the paperwork.

Last month, I tried to buy a Tacoma, and the local dealers were not honest about the prospect of a dealer trade, and nobody else wanted to offer less than $500 under MSRP, so I found what I wanted in OH, and drove down, trading the WRX in at the dealership.

Coincidently there was an older PWC I wanted in Ohio back in March/April, so I drove down to get that too. I guess buying vehicles from Ohio is sort of my thing now.

I drove from Las Vegas to so cal to buy my truck from Tusin Toyota. The dealers here in Las Vegas didn't have the TRDOR in white fully loaded but honestly I'm glad I went back to CA. Negotiated the whole deal the prior week, made it there 8pm and the truck was sitting out front ready to go. The sales and finance guys were awesome and I didn't have to pay registration, got a one way pass back to NV and registered it when I got home.

Did Tustin negotiate much on price? I tried buying there and they wouldn't go lower than $500 off

I was about $1000 below. But they also had the exact vehicle I wanted and no one was really willing to negotiate the price when I bought the truck. Now it's a different story that the 2017s are out
