OP, I would have the same worries as you on buying a fairly new truck with that many miles. I'm sure the truck runs /drives great but if I decide to resell in a few years, that truck may be well past the 100K miles mark and hurt the resale value. You can only wish that the PO is religious about maintainence as some TW members here. I would keep looking since for $23k, I can find another used one for less miles.

In my opinion, i'd tend to agree wit him if the truck is at the dealer, most dealers wouldn't care to keep the paperwork around, and when i get rid of my cars to the dealer, i keep all the maintenance stuff and then toss it, mainly because all the personal information. Also at 74K miles, there are things that should be done, but I don't think many people would not even do them, like flushes, diff fluid, spark plugs, i bought mine at 84K miles, and pretty sure my assumption of zero maintenance other than oil changes is correct. at 23K I would ask what kind of model is it? double cab? prerunner? if is double cab 4x4, I would say go for it, if it is prerunner double cab, I'd think bout it, and look to see if I can get any similar ones for around the same price. As you'd find, there will be people listing their 2005-2006's with over 100K for like 18-19 in some areas

True. I agree. Per carfax (& I'm aware, carfax is not to be solely relied on), owner had it 1 year, 10 months. Mileage does not worry me as much as mileage + no proof of maintenance. It's a plus that it's toyota certified, but I know owners who have had issues with CPO vehicles too. It's not the deal of the century, I just think we can do better (at least I'm hoping as I really want my husband to get the truck he really wants) around the $20k mark.

The date of manufacture is 2/2012. It is on the door sticker pic...Average of 3k/month if it was purchased in March of 2012.

According to KBB, the asking price is fair. For $2,500 more you can have the same truck new.
I am not impressed with the interior drivers door wear.

I am almost at 5000 miles on mine, bought 2 years ago. I only use it on the weekends. So yeah, a commuter could definitely rack up that many miles really quick. It is obvious by the wear on the drivers door that this was a commuter vehicle. The only thing that would worry me is the lack of maintenance records, some people do it at the dealer, some do it themselves. Some have it done at another shop, which will not show up on the Toyota site. I am getting my third oil change done tomorrow at the dealer, from then on, it will be me doing it, and yes, I do keep record of it, receipts, etc.

I have owned many Toyotas over the years and record all of their maintenance on Toyotaowners.com. This is a factory web page that allows the do-it-yourself maintenance to be recorded. When the car is traded or sold, all maintenance info is there.

I went here and did not see an option to to view service records on this vehicle. Looks like you need to register your vehicle and become a member. Maybe I am missing something--is this information not for public view without registering? Thanks... I just noticed on the carfax that the dealer replaced the windshield. Interesting.

The Toyota windshields are weak. Purchased mine in 01/13 and have already replaced a windshield and need to repair chips in the new one already. That vehicle may have had a windshield whistle as well which the dealer would replace.

To me the miles seem high for being a vehicle that is only 2 years old. That's one of the things when it comes to a buying a used vehicle that if the owner never went to the dealership and did everything themselves. It's really hard to say if they are going to keep the maintenance records with the miles when the work was done. For me, it didn't matter how long I owned the car, I would have a record of everything. No matter if the work was done by me or the dealership. I also keep a maintenance log in the truck for just in case because whenever I sell/trade my Tacoma it's going to have everything with it from the day I drove it off the lot.
If I were you. I'd personally find a truck with lower miles. Possibly an owner that has all the paperwork of what was done, even if it wasn't done at the dealership. It's not like it's going to have very many owners with it being 2 years old.

No, it def is High! I think that's why the dealer is listing it at Bluebook. Usually Tacos around here are listed well above and sometimes even 2010s are listed just a grand or 2 less than brand new. It was explained to us that Tacos are just in a class of their own and hold their value when you resell. Don't know if that is a marketing ploy by the dealer to dissuade us from negotiating. That's why my husband was so set on buying this one (thinking he wasn't going to find anything newer than 2009 with a ~@20K pricetag. $23 us is our budget. I just can't bring myself to wholeheartedly agree to the purchase--just worried about problems that may possibly come if say owner did not keep up with maintenance and then if we do want to resell, the likelihood, it will be over 100K miles in less than a few years... :(

What do you guys think is the likelihood on negotiating on a used Tacoma from what is listed (not just this one), but any other one. Normally, I go in with the mindset that cars are listed with a couple grand wiggle room, but the more I look for Tacos via dealers and private sellers--they are not willing to budge and find intersted buyers at prices 2-3K anove BB? What do you think?

spend the extra for lower miles, that truck will be old and worn and need more major maintenance and repairs sooner than you think with that many miles on it..

Here is one local to us, and seems to be a good deal. We are also looking for a late model Pre-runner, DC TRD Sport w/auto, they are hard to find in our area as not many folks want a 2 WD. I suspect we may have to travel to locate a clean one. This is a nice truck, and for here seems to be a good price.

That is nice. :) Yup hard to find here too. Although not a deal breaker, what we really want is a long bed--those are a rarity here. I see so many 2010s with decent mileage listed for at least 25,900 here! There is a private seller local here, DC SR5 Extra, Long bed, 25K miles, white, clean and won't budge off of $26K

Just found a 2013, DBL, SR5, Short Bed, 10K miles, listed for about the same price. It's in black which really isn't want we want but that's okay, but the pictures don't show the truck at it's "best." i.e., personal items in the car, definitely not just detailed. Picture under the hood looks old/dirty. Do you think it's indicative of anything? It's priced quite "low" compare to others. With only 10K miles, not much damage they could have done, right?! I am interested in this one! [IMG][IMG][IMG]
