OP - At 23k that is not a very good deal. I paid 31k for my TRD OR 4x4 brand new with 5 miles on it. 4x4 was 3k and the TRD OR package was another 3k.

I assume you could probably find a brand new double cab without a TRD package and without 4x4 for around 25k or 26k most likely. Just spend the extra 2 - 3k and buy a brand new 2014.

Would be great if we could do that. Our budget is really 20K and stretched it to 23K. I think it would be okay to stretch it for the right vehicle but I didn't think this one was a good deal IMO. Like another posted, if we could have gotten it at 23 out the door, that would have made me feel better. But I already knew this was not the truck my husband wanted. He WANTS a long bed and does not like the silver color. I don't think silver looks bad. But he felt through our searches, this was the best he was going to get within our budget. Even 2010s with good mileage are listed for 25K around here. We did look at new vehicles here and was offered $200 under invoice and that came out to $27 for the base model (before TTL). Brand new for the truck he wants was $30K (before TTL). That is just too big a stretch for us Although I DO understand what some of you are saying about just paying abit more for new. If we could afford it, we would do that, but if trying to be smart about our bills, $23 is the most we can do. I think what we will do, is look at older vehicles with lower miles and maybe buy an extended warranty if out of warranty. What do you guys think about purchasing extended warranty? Thanks for all your comments!!

Good idea and thanks for the info! I did do a KBB check and marked off every option they had listed and it matched exactly what the dealer had listed as BB value. They are actually $300 under blue book. I originally argued with them that they were over also and showed them what I came up with them, but I had missed several options. :-/ But we may take another look at this truck if it's still around in a week and see if they will want to sell then.

Just to add some more information and to possibly give you a little peace of mind about buying a higher mileage Tacoma - I have a 2009 with 126k miles on it. I've maintained it religously and have had no repairs other than a front wheel bearing and a new suspension (that was not due to wear and tear, that was due to an unfortunate fight with a concrete light pole base).

My only real point is that if you can find the right truck that has been well maintained by someone who knows what they're doing, high mileage is nothing worry about. I have absolutely no doubts in my mind that my truck will make it to 200k miles without any major repairs. If I were to sell it today, I'd try to get about $18-19k, so it's about what you're looking for, but a little less (and it's 4x4). If you're patient, you should be able to find what you want. Best of luck!

It may be harder to find, but stick with an older model with low mileage. The age of a vehicle has more influence on the price than the mileage does. Newer units with a butt load of miles still fetch higher prices than a late model with low miles. For example. My buddy bought a 5 year old honda with only 14K miles on the odometer for $13K under the price of a comparable new model. This is an extreme example, but low mileage units are out there. Just gotta keep looking.

No, I agree in some areas and you are right about respecting a man. He and I are different in some areas like money/finance and that's what makes us a good team. He has said before that he likes/respects that I "allow"/aka don't nag him for speeding, blasting loud music in the car, and spending friviously on "stupid sh%&%". That's what he enjoys and yes I tend to be more conservative, but that works...most times lol. I agree there's a good balance in there. I think in regards to this vehicle, I knew it was not what he wanted. He already told me he didn't want the short bed or the silver color and I didn't want him to settle just yet as we basically has only started looking a few weeks ago. He's more an impulsive buyer and I'm a researcher, but you're right, it good to let some of that crap go and choose your battles. But honestly, I didn't want him to be stuck with a truck that he didn't love, I guess :) But we will see where this search gets us!

I will agree with you ! I think high miles may be okay & worthwhile if buying from an owner that took care of the car :) We are hoping to find this person!! fingers crossed

I would tell that dealer to shove it if he wants $30k brand new before TTL for a 2 wheel drive PreRunner without even having an SR5 package, like the truck in your link. That's not realistic.

As someone else has posted you should be able to get a brand new one for no more than 24k with more options than that, if you shop around and pit every dealer within a 2 hour radius against each other on quotes. In the long run you'll be happier going brand new for a few extra grand when your spending that much already, just get the loan for a few extra years or try to sell your trade in yourself. You're certainly close enough to go new.

Or in SoCal, one trip through the desert in the wrong weather can leave the glass sandblasted to the point that it might seem okay, but a dealer will replace it.

If it's that many miles they are probably highway miles which are easier on the truck than stop and go miles. If it's a good deal I would go for it, any major issues should sort them out by 100k.

I just bought a 2011 tacoma. I used Toyotas web page to check several vins. You do not have to own the truck to check the vin. It was good to be able to see what had been done service wise. Another good web page was Toyota certified search in your area.

Thank you so much for searching for me! We actually did go see this one, but it was a car lot with bad reviews as being shady. Once there, they needed a credit check to test drive the car, & also tacked on $1000 "sellers fee", & said they would not negotiate even a dollar off because they get their cars from auction & have rock bottom prices. Lots of reviews saying to stay away.... The salesman could have cared less if we were there so we left but my husband did like this one!

Will do, thanks for the heads up. I just did an oil change and didn't notice anything at that time, but I will keep my eye on it.

No problem, sorry it didn't help and you had a rought time at that dealer. Looking at their reviews, a huge chunk of them were written on the same day, so I would imagine that the company is reviewing themselves, skewing their rating.

I would do my best to stick with a CPO. They come with a 7 year 100,000 mile. They also come with a 1 year 12,000 mile bumper to bumper. Be patient and one will come w/in your price range
