guys- I just went into the garage and there's a hum/buzz coming from under my truck. Sounds like it's kinda behind the rear drivers side tire. Any idea what it could be? Truck has been sitting for 3 hours. Keys not in ignition.

    Stumped.

Did you run over a cat in the garage?

What is it? It's kinda loud. Never heard it before in the 4 years I owned the truck.

Ha no. Definitely an electrical thing. Fuel pump? It's more toward the center of the vehicle than right behind the wheel.

You drive it today? Could be exhaust packing as it cools.

I remember reading something in the owners manual a while back about fuel pump or some emissions bs running from time to time on these trucks.

Id crawl under the exhaust and give it an ear. If the muffler or cat is making the hum, there's your answer. Otherwise get a listen on the fuel tank, I would think though that the pump wouldve shut off with truck.

I wouldn't think that would just randomly kick in while the trucks off and sitting. Sounds like a good way to drain a battery.

Owners manual says it will run from time to time with the truck off and key out of ignition.. Not all the time, once or twice

It’s normal...freaked me out the first time I heard it, too. It’s an emissions check or something like that. There was a discussion on one of these threads at least once in the past.

Thanks guys. I guess it's a normal thing. Odd thing to me was I've been driving Tacoma's for 20+ years and never heard it before. A 1998, a 2010, two 2012's, and a 2014. Seems I'd have heard it just by chance before.

It finally quit after I'd been standing by the truck for 10 mins wondering wtf. It was fairly loud buzz. I thought it'd surely kill the battery if it continued. I parked the truck today at 2pm. And discovered the buzz around 7:30.

Seems like a long time after turning off the truck for the emissions check to come on? Or is that normal??
