Weird question, but I was camping last weekend and was sleeping in the bed of my truck. Well two nights in a row this buzzing noise woke me up.

It sounded a lot like a small motor was running or something. It actually sounded a lot like a fuel pump. Not sure why it would be running though when my truck was completely off for at least 4-5 hours before it started making this noise. It would go on for about 2-3 minutes and then stop.

    Any ideas what this is?

It’s nothing to worry about, normal. It’s an emissions thing, hydrocarbon purge, I can’t remember exactly. I heard it in my 2.7, I would have thought that would be a v6 thing exclusively.

Most likely a leak detection pump.

isn't that what the bed plug is for? You know. Just in case a quick charge is needed.

It happens about 5 hours after you shut the truck off, totally normal.

Yup, its normal. Scared the crap out of me while camping last year!

I unscrew my gas cap before I go to bed--seems to have stopped it from happening. Just remember to screw it back on before you take off!

Thanks for the pointer! At first I thought someone was blowing up an air mattress or something across the way and then I realized it was coming from my truck. I was so confused lol. Thanks for the info everybody, glad to know its normal.

Lmfao. My truck literally been off for hours and I come out to put an early Christmas present on (step ups) and same shit. Vibrator in the back of my truck. Won't let me post the vid, but y'all would doe laughin'!
I've had older tacomas, but been in a 2000 7.3 F250 the last 8 years and that bitch didn't do nothin but leak occasionally lol. These new trucks have a mind of their own. The damn TACO TIC (up front in pass side valve cover tic) and the howl in the rear bout made me take this thing back. BUT OH NO! THAT'S "NORMAL" TOO!

Really gotta get used to ned technology!
