Buzzy Vibration at certain RPM's..read before buying!

Don't just go to the dealer...COMPLAIN to Toyota Customer Care. As I noted in an earlier post, many dealers will just smile, nod, say little or nothing, and not even file your complaint with Toyota.

 

Does your state have a 3 day return law? I would take it back.

 

When I had my Regional Toyota appointment on Feb 2nd I gave the guy a 30 page folder of this thread. I called back to corporate over a week ago. I asked him what was the conclusion from my Feb 2 visit. The same guy from corporate called me back yesterday and informed me that the folder and my concerns were forwarded to the proper people for review. He gave me the name of the guy that test drove my truck from the region. My point being that Toyota corporate and Toyota regional have communicated over this and I think it's starting to put some pressure on them to investigate. Keep scheduling Regional office test drives. Drive there trucks on the lot right after and if you get a good one then beat them over the head with it! Keep pushing them!

 

No 3 day return law. You are referring to mortgages which have a 3 day right of recision. I have called the dealer. Service mgr said he hadn't heard of it. I told him to google it and it's everywhere. Almost exclusively regarding TRD Sports and Limiteds. He's gonna take it to work with him one day next week. Hopefully it gets figured out or I will become a VERY squeaky wheel ! I will make them swap me for an OFF RD. I can always have leather installed...

 

Too bad cause other than this issue the truck outside of this is incredible...

I agree....and hopefully, a TSB is coming soon to fix this. I can't help but think that there is something readily fixable that will resolve this because of those reports of people who drive theirs for 2500 miles, and then it surfaces...kind of like something shifts, moves, of settles differently, and the vibes show up? Some theories regarding heat shields, etc. seem to fit that mold. Any way you look at it, though, it is frustrating; as, this is a nice truck, otherwise. My friends are jealous of the truck until they drive it, then they shake their heads and say they are glad they don't own it because of the vibes.

had same issue the drive shaft grease points are dry after greasing it disappeared after 75 miles

 

With all due respect, if you had read through the thread, the buzzy vibration was determined not to be at any speed, but at a certain RPM range in any gear. Greasing the drive shaft grease points would not get rid of something like what we feel.....your issue was different.

 

One thought for everyone that may be more active on the thread than me, I keep seeing reviews complain about an exhaust drone at our mystery vibration range.

To me a drone is a deep bass rumble that's annoying in my hatchback wrx..

But the exhaust definitely has a distinct tone at these rpms, when under load (same time the vibrations occur)..

Could other people be describing our buzzing as exhaust drone?

 

I called Toyota today. They had closed my previously opened case (maybe cause I didn't call back early enough?)

Anyway, I opened a new case and I gave a list of recent observations on the RPM vibe issue. We went over things noticed and how I found them, and the representative said he would pass the information on. He said the next step would be to have a field technical specialist come out and go through these things with me in person. Although, first, I need to go through the dealer for a test drive to confirm the issue. I've been in for it previously but got a "cannot duplicate" after they took the truck for a test drive without me. It was one of those wait for 2.5 - 3 hours and "surprise! no issues with your truck. Oh, you wanted to go along?"

I have not found a root cause or been able to remove all vibrations from my truck yet. I have been able to identify areas that are pretty sensitive and give good responses through the steering/floor/gas pedal. I have been hoping to narrow it down a bit, because I know typically engineering teams engaged on these issues can be spread thin.

Still optimistic a fix can be found quickly based on my experimenting. Will update as (hopefully) things progress.

 

Does anyone here have this buzz with a manual transmission?

I haven't read the entire thread, but I have a very specific (and annoying) buzz that crops up around 2100 rpm and is gone by 2300 rpm. It's most noticeable on the freeway at around 60mph when under light to moderate load. By 65-70mph (in 6th) it is gone. It appears to be coming from the corner of the dash on the drivers side, but I have not been able to find the source.

This is good to know which means the source is less likely to be the AT..

 

I am one of the manuals in this thread. The more I have read on it my vibration issue is much smaller that some of those reported in this on going saga. I feel vibes in the pedal and floor boards but it is no where near enough to vibrate or rattle dash components like some have stated in this thread. My feeling is that the motor is buzzy, which I can feel in the floor and pedals but for some reason the manual tranny does not vibrate as much as the autos do. Don't ask me why, just my observation.

 

Mine is similar to yours, not bad enough to cause rattles. Mine is an auto. But any difference may help us locate why.

For example, the exhaust is braced with a solid steel support to the transmission and that bracket would have to be slightly different between the two transmission varients..

 

I'll add to this as another manual. I don't get rattles but my hands and arms and foot start hurting and then numbing from the vibrations after 5 or so miles.

 

I wrote Toyota about this issue and that I will not buying Tacoma because of it. I still have some time, but I am not sure I can wait for MY 2017, besides who knows if they will address it. Such a shame.

I hope lost buyers will get their attention more than complaints from those who already paid up.

 

Thanks for taking the time to do this. I don't know if it would stop me from buying again.. Unsure.. It seems like you may have a 50/50 of not having it... And there seems to be all different levels of intensity..
