    Hi everyone,

I have 2000 base model 2dr 4cyl manual transmission Tacoma.

The other day someone broke in and tried to steal my truck and wrecked the ignition cylinder. It was working for a couple days after but I'd really have to jiggle the key. Then the other day when I was in a rush the key wouldn't turn and I tried it too hard and broke the key off inside the lock.

I've read a tonne of forums the past few days about replacing the cylinder (seems like it could be easy if I can get the current cylinder into the ACC position). Which hasn't been the case as of yet.... So I'm not going to order a new cylinder until I can get the broken one out... and I don't feel like trying all this drilling that people are talking about, I'm not that well versed in these things so seems over my abilities.

What I was wondering though, is if it is possible to just install some sort of switch or button that I can use to start and stop the truck. I would just bypass the key ignition, and have the switch/button hidden under the steering column and just make sure the truck has a club on it everytime it's parked so that rando's can't just get in, press the button, and take off.

I've read quite a bit about some of the pushbuttons that people have installed here, but it seems like they need the key to be put into ACC and then the button pushed. I'm confused about what kind of pushbuttons or switches there are and what I could install. If anyone has any ideas, let me know.

    Thanks,

    Rylee

I would fix the ignition. Adding an engine start button defeats the ignition lock, and you can remove a club hilariously easily. Not worth it.

Mobile locksmith if you don't want to mess with it. The bill is going to suck but at least you're back up and running relatively quick.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
If you can bypass your ignition switch you and a friend can drill out the pin.

You did not include where you live if you don`t have any mechanically inclined friends if your close I would be glad to help.

With a Lock smith you can have the new lock cylinder rekeyed to your original key.

    good Luck!!

And I really should stress your truck will 100% get stolen if the club is the only thing protecting it. You can pry the club off really easily, or hacksaw through the steering wheel in less than 5 minutes.

The club offers nothing but being a deterrent.
