Because not everyone needs 4wd. Have you attempted this rock while in 4LO for the lower gearing?

Yes, all 4 tires in dirt and no spin surprisingly. While two on top of rock ledge and the other two were still below it

Something isn't right here. Not sure if it's your trucks mechanics or your ability to relay information, but something isn't right. Good luck OP.

Yeah, when I get back I will try and get my mechanic buddy to run it on his computer and see if anything is wrong. I really hope its not hardware:fingerscrossed:

Sound like a torque converter problem but then again if it drives fine it's not. So you can not brake traction at all? Even in 2H?

You need lockers that's all you need. If the truck is running fine and is mechanically fine get some lockers

Lockers wouldn't help in this scenario at all.

The first thing that comes to mind is a plugged catalytic converter . I have basically the same truck with the same engine and in 4 low ,I dont have any issues making the tires spin . If your mechanic buddy is checking things out , tell him to perform a stall test and then check for a plugged cat with a vacuum gauge . As others have mentioned , there are many variables that come into play here but it sure sounds like the engine has a restriction . Interested to hear what you find

Here is a quick video . This truck had a much more severe case than yours but it will show you diagnostic steps along with removal and replacement

Any chance this is just the traction control kicking in? Can you turn off the traction control by pushing and holding until the light on the dash comes on, do this again until another light comes on, then push the button 1 more time. This turns off all the traction control.

[IMG] [IMG] That is the side curtain air bag cut off switch. the button you are looking for will be on the other side of the wheel. It has the outline of a vehicle with a pair of squiggly lines under it.
